His son succeeded him in the business, which operated out of the building until at least 1940, but had ceased operation some time before J. W. Allison's death in 1945. Richmond, New South Wales
Richmond is a town in New South Wales, in the local government area of the City of Hawkesbury. It is located 19 metres above sea level on the alluvial Hawkesbury River flats, at the foot of the Blue Mountains on the Cumberland Plain. It is about 65 km by road from Sydney and about 78 km by road from Lithgow. History The Darug people were the Aboriginal peoples to the area in 1788. The area was originally explored by British settlers in 1789 and the nearby eminence to the west of the Hawkesbury River was known by them as 'Richmond Hill'. The name was given by Governor Arthur Phillip, in honour of Charles Lennox, the third Duke of Richmond who was Master General of Ordnance in the Pitt administration. The New South Wales State Heritage Register, also known as NSW State Heritage Register, is a heritage list of places in the state of New South Wales, Australia, that are protected by New South Wales legislation, generally covered by the Heritage Act 1977 and its 2010 amendments. The register is administered by the Heritage Council of NSW via Heritage NSW, a division of the Government of New South Wales Department of Planning and Environment. The register was created in 1999 and includes items protected by heritage schedules that relate to the State, and to regional and to local environmental plans. As a result, the register contains over 20,000 statutory-listed items in either public or private ownership of historical, cultural, and architectural value. ''The Hawkesbury Herald'' was a weekly English language newspaper published in Windsor, New South Wales, Australia for the Hawkesbury River community. History The first issue of ''The Hawkesbury Herald'' was published on 24 April 1902 by William Henry Pinkstone and Frederick William Collison. Pinkstone and Collison published the newspaper until 1940. The newspaper continued to be published after 1940 until 1945 when it was merged into the ''Windsor and Richmond Gazette''. The ''Windsor and Richmond Gazette'' is now published as the ''Hawkesbury Gazette''. ''Windsor and Richmond Gazette'', later published as the ''Hawkesbury Gazette'', was a weekly English language compact format newspaper published in Windsor, New South Wales, Australia. History First published on 11 July 1888 by John Charles Lucas Fitzpatrick. The ''Windsor and Richmond Gazette'' was published from 1888-1983. On 4 July 1945 the Hawkesbury Herald was incorporated as part of the Windsor and Richmond Gazette. The Herald reported its amalgamation with other district newspapers saying that the newspaper would be "purchased by Hawkesbury Consolidated Press to be incorporated in the ''Windsor and Richmond Gazette'', which paper, with the ''Hawkesbury Courier'', will continue to be published from the office of the firm".
