''Alligator'' is the third studio album by American indie rock band The National, released on April 12, 2005 on Beggars Banquet. Recorded and produced by Peter Katis and Paul Mahajan, the album brought The National critical acclaim and increased their fanbase significantly. ''Alligator'' appeared on many year-end top 10 lists, including ''Uncut'' and ''Planet Sound'', both of which ranked it as the number two album of 2005. ''Pitchfork'' ranked ''Alligator'' at number 40 in their top albums of the 2000s list. ''Alligator'' has sold over 200,000 copies worldwide. The National is an American rock band of Cincinnati, Ohio natives, formed in Brooklyn, New York City in 1999. The band consists of Matt Berninger (vocals), twin brothers Aaron Dessner (guitar, piano, keyboards) and Bryce Dessner (guitar, piano, keyboards), as well as brothers Scott Devendorf (bass) and Bryan Devendorf (drums). Carin Besser is not a band member, but has written lyrics for the band alongside her husband, Berninger, since its 2007 album ''Boxer''. Pela (band)
Pela was an American indie rock band from Brooklyn known for their intense live performances. History Pela's history goes back to the early ’90s when lead vocalist and guitarist William McCarthy met Christopher Herb. As best friends they worked at a mall together after dropping out of high school, and then traveled around the world together playing music in various cities. Herb and McCarthy began a folk project called Igloo Gazelle in New York City in 2001. In early 2002, Herb had a chance meeting with Eric Sanderson on a subway platform at 7th avenue in Brooklyn where Herb was busking. Sanderson was invited to a practice session and joined the band shortly thereafter. In late 2002, Herb abruptly moved to Australia for four years. Bryan Devendorf is an American drummer. He is best known as a founding member of the indie rock band The National, with whom he has recorded eight studio albums. Devendorf is also a member of the experimental rock bands Pfarmers and LNZNDRF. In 2020, Devendorf released his debut solo album, ''Royal Green'', under the moniker Royal Green. Scott Devendorf
Scott Devendorf is an American multi-instrumentalist. He is best known as the bass guitarist for the American indie rock band The National, with whom he has recorded eight studio albums. Devendorf is also a member of the indie rock project LNZNDRF. Personal life Devendorf grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio with his brother and The National bandmate, Bryan Devendorf. Prior to performing in The National, Devendorf worked as a graphic designer. Other projects Outside of his work with The National, Devendorf is involved in a number of other projects. Bryce David Dessner (born April 23, 1976) is an American composer and guitarist based in Paris, as well as a member of the rock band the National. Dessner's twin brother Aaron is also a member of the group. Together they write the music, in collaboration with lead singer / lyricist Matt Berninger. In addition to his work with the National, Dessner is known for his independent work as a composer. Aaron Brooking Dessner (born April 23, 1976) is an American musician, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known as a founding member of the rock band the National, with whom he has recorded eight studio albums; a co-founder of the indie rock duo Big Red Machine, teaming with Bon Iver's Justin Vernon; and a collaborator on Taylor Swift's studio albums ''Folklore'' and '' Evermore'', both of which contended for the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2021 and 2022, respectively, with the former winning the accolade. Matthew Donald Berninger (, born February 13, 1971) is an American singer-songwriter, primarily known as the frontman and lyricist of indie rock band The National. In 2014, he also formed the EL VY project with Brent Knopf of Ramona Falls and Menomena and released the album ''Return to the Moon'' in November 2015. In May 2020, Berninger shared the title track from his solo debut album, '' Serpentine Prison'', which was released in October 2020. Berninger is known for his classic baritone voice.
