Allesley is an English suburban village and civil parish in the City of Coventry metropolitan borough, West Midlands, about 3¼ miles (5.25 km) west-northwest of Coventry city centre and 4 miles (6.5 km) east-south-east of Meriden. According to the 2001 census, the parish had a population of 805, which rose to 837 at the 2011 Census (excluding the neighbouring districts of Allesley Park and Allesley Green). Until 1998, Allesley contained the main Jaguar car assembly plant at Browns Lane. Allesley Park
Allesley Park is a park near Coventry, West Midlands, England. It is also the name of the residential suburb adjacent to the park, which is approximately 2.5 miles (4 km) northwest of Coventry city centre, just east of the A45 Coventry bypass. History The park was originally a deer park laid out by Henry de Hastings in the 13th century. It was approximately 5 times larger than the current park. It was later used as a large gentleman's farm of more than which was owned by the church. In the 1960s, it was bought by Coventry City Council when it was preserved as a public park. River Sherbourne
The River Sherbourne is a river that flows under the centre of the city of Coventry, in the West Midlands, in England. The source of the river is in the fields near Hawkes End in the parish of Allesley. It flows for about 8 miles or 13 km in a generally southeastern direction. In the centre of Coventry it flows through Spon End (where it is spanned by Vignoles Bridge) and it is culverted just before it reaches the Inner Ring Road and Spon Street, and continues through the suburb of Whitley. It joins the River Sowe (a tributary of the River Avon) south of the A45 road near Baginton. The name Sherbourne is said to derive from ''Scir Burna'', "clear stream" in Old English. In 1935 and on eight more recent occasions, the upper Sherbourne around Allesley has dried up almost completely. All Saints Church, Allesley ...
All Saints Church is a mediaeval church in the suburban village of Allesley adjoining the City of Coventry, in the West Midlands of England. The building is grade I listed, though churches in ecclesiastical use are exempt from listed building procedures. The church is thought to be 13th century in origin, but has a history dating back to Norman times and was largely rebuilt in 1862–3 by James Murray. The building contains many wall monuments, dating to the 17th and 18th centuries, particularly in the vestry and under the tower. Further additions were made in the 19th century. Walter Blith
Walter Blith (1605–1654) was an English writer on husbandry and an official under the Commonwealth. His books promoted improvements in techniques, but were suppressed after the 1660 Restoration. Family Blith was baptised in Allesley, Warwickshire, as the fourth and youngest son of John Blith (died 1626), yeoman, a prosperous cereal and dairy farmer, and Ann, daughter of Barnaby Holbeche of Birchley Hall, Fillongley.
