Allen Miller (golfer)
Allen Lane Miller III (born August 10, 1948) is an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour in the 1970s and 1980s. Miller was born in San Diego, California. He had a distinguished amateur career. He attended the University of Georgia, and was a member of the golf team. Miller was the #2 ranked amateur in America in 1969 and 1970 by '' Golf Digest''; he was a member of the 1969 and 1971 Walker Cup teams, and the 1970 Eisenhower Trophy team. He won the 1970 Canadian Amateur Championship. Miller turned professional in 1971. He played on the PGA Tour for 15 years and had 18 top-10 finishes. He won the 1974 Tallahassee Open by one stroke over Joe Inman, Eddie Pearce and Dan Sikes with a 14-under-par 274. The event was played during the same week as the Tournament of Champions, where most of the Tours elite players played. His best finish in a major was T-15 at The Masters in 1975. Masters Tournament
The Masters Tournament (usually referred to as simply The Masters, or the U.S. Masters outside North America) is one of the four major championships in professional golf. Scheduled for the first full week of April, the Masters is the first major of the year, and unlike the others, it is always held at the same location, Augusta National Golf Club, a private course in the city of Augusta, Georgia, in the southeastern United States. The Masters was started by amateur champion Bobby Jones and investment banker Clifford Roberts. 1971 Walker Cup
The 1971 Walker Cup, the 23rd Walker Cup Match, was played on 26 and 27 May 1971, on the Old Course at St Andrews, Scotland. The event was won by Great Britain & Ireland 13 to 11, their first win in the event since 1938. Although Great Britain and Ireland won all the first morning foursomes, the United States won six of the eight singles and held a one point lead after the first day. The United States lead increased to two points after the second day foursomes. However Great Britain and Ireland won six of the eight singles matches to win the Walker Cup for the first time since World War II. Format The format for play on Wednesday and Thursday was the same. The event was won by the United States 10 to 8 with 6 matches halved. The United States led by 4 points after the first day and, although Great Britain and Ireland won both the foursomes and singles sessions on the second day, the United States won by two points. The Open Championship
The Open Championship, often referred to as The Open or the British Open, is the oldest golf tournament in the world, and one of the most prestigious. PGA Championship
The PGA Championship (often referred to as the US PGA Championship or USPGA outside the United States) is an annual golf tournament conducted by the Professional Golfers' Association of America. Dogwood Invitational
The Dogwood Invitational is an amateur golf championship played annually at Druid Hills Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. Established in 1941, the goal of the Dogwood is to promote the game of amateur golf and support junior golf organizations. The tournament is run by The Dogwood Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit. The Dogwood Invitation has consistently been a "Category B" tournament in the World Amateur Golf Ranking which means that it is one of the top 150 men's events world-wide based on strength-of-field. The 18-hole, par-72 course at Druid Hills is 6,860 yards from the Dogwood Tees with a slope of 139 and 73.5 rating. The field is created via invitation only and is supplemented with an 18-hole open qualifier, during tournament week. The Trans-Mississippi Amateur or Trans-Miss Amateur is an annual amateur golf tournament. It is organized by the Trans-Mississippi Golf Association and was first played in 1901. It is played at a different course each year that are located near or west of the Mississippi River. From 1987 to 2009, the field has been limited to mid-amateurs (age 25 or greater). Western New York
Western New York (WNY) is the westernmost region of the U.S. state of New York. The eastern boundary of the region is not consistently defined by state agencies or those who call themselves "Western New Yorkers". Almost all sources agree WNY includes the cities of Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Jamestown, and the surrounding suburbs, as well as the outlying rural areas of the Great Lakes lowlands and Niagara Frontier, and Chautauqua-Alleghany (or the western Southern Tier).
