Allan Mitelman
Allan Mitelman (6 August 1946, Poland) is an Australian painter, printmaker and art teacher who arrived in Australia in 1953. Biography Allan Mitelman was brought to Australia from Poland as a child in 1953. He and photographer Jacqueline Mitelman (née MacGreggor) were briefly married. Training and career He received his early training from his art teacher, the Austrian-born sculptor Karl Duldig, before studying architecture for a year. He then studied at the Prahran College of Advanced Education 1965–68. He consolidate his interest in printmaking with further studies at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) soon after which, in 1972, Mitelman was included with Martin Sharp, Arthur Boyd and Fred Williams in the exhibition ''Australian Prints'' at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London and an etching and lithograph by Mitelman was acquired by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Alan McLeod McCulloch
Alan McLeod McCulloch AO (5 August 1907 – 21 December 1992) was one of Australia's foremost art critics for more than 60 years, an art historian and gallery director, cartoonist, and painter. Early life Alan McLeod McCulloch was born to Annie (née Mcleod) and Alexander on 5 August 1907 in St Kilda in Melbourne, and brought up in Mosman, Sydney. His father encouraged a sense that "the arts were the most important thing in life," so Alan developed keen interest in art as a child. The family returned to Melbourne after his father died and when McCulloch was ten, living at 341 Malvern Rd. Malvern East. Macquarie Galleries was a Sydney private art gallery established in 1925 by John Henry Young and Basil Burdett. It was located at "Strathkyle", 19 Bligh Street Sydney then moved to 40 King Street in 1945. From 1991 to 1993 it was located at 83–85 McLachlan Avenue, Rushcutters Bay. It is currently located at 585 Grosvenor Place, Sydney. There are also associated Macquarie Galleries in Canberra and Perth. Basil Burdett left in 1935 or 1936 to become art critic for the Melbourne Herald. A E J L McDonnell became a partner around 1928. From 1939 to 1956 (59?) Pinacotheca was a gallery in Melbourne, Australia. Established in 1967 by Bruce Pollard, it was ideologically committed to the avant-garde and represented a new generation of artists interested in post-object, conceptual and other non-traditional art forms. History Bruce Pollard opened the Pinacotheca gallery in May 1967, at 1 Fitzroy Street, a dark St Kilda bayside Edwardian mansion. He relocated it to Bedggood's Shoe Factory, at 10 Waltham Place, Richmond, Melbourne in June 1970. An early owner of the building was notorious entrepreneur D.J. Henry 'Money' Miller. The gallery closed in October 1999 and the business was de-registered in 2001, but re-opened in August 2002 for its very last exhibition, then closed permanently.J. The Heide Museum of Modern Art, also known as Heide, is an art museum in Bulleen, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Established in 1981, the museum houses modern and contemporary art across three distinct exhibition buildings and is set within sixteen acres of heritage-listed gardens and a sculpture park. The museum occupies the site of a former dairy farm owned by prominent arts benefactors John and Sunday Reed. After purchasing the farm in 1934, they named it Heide in reference to the Heidelberg School, an impressionist art movement that developed in nearby Heidelberg in the 1880s.
