Allan E. Maher
Allan E. Maher (born February 16, 1938) is a former funeral director and political figure in New Brunswick, Canada. He represented Dalhousie in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1978 to 1995 as a Liberal member. He was born in Chatham, New Brunswick, the son of Holt A. Maher and Dorothea Ferguson, and was educated at the New England Institute. In 1958, he married Helen K. Payne. Maher served as mayor of Dalhousie. He was an unsuccessful candidate for a seat in the provincial assembly in 1974 before being elected in 1978. New Brunswick (french: Nouveau-Brunswick, , locally ) is one of the thirteen provinces and territories of Canada. It is one of the three Maritime provinces and one of the four Atlantic provinces. It is the only province with both English and French as its official languages. The 2013 New Brunswick electoral redistribution was undertaken through the process set out in the ''Electoral Boundaries and Representation Act'' of New Brunswick, Canada. The legislation establishes a statutory requirement for redistribution of electoral districts after every second New Brunswick general election. A commission was struck to draw 49 electoral districts, a decrease from 55 districts, which will first be used in the 2014 provincial election. The 49 boundaries will have to be within the range of 95% to 105% of the 1/49th of the number of registered voters in the province except in "extraordinary circumstances". Under the legislation, the commission will be chaired by one anglophone and one francophone and consist of 3 to 5 other commissioners, all of whom must be New Brunswick residents. Dalhousie ( ) is a formerly incorporated town, located in Restigouche County, New Brunswick. New Brunswick's northernmost point of land is situated in Dalhousie, where the Restigouche River meets Chaleur Bay. On 1 January 2023, Dalhousie merged with the village of Charlo and several local service districts (LSDs) to form the new town of Heron Bay – French name ''Baie-des-Hérons''.
