Allan Craig
Allan Leggat Craig (7 February 1904 – 1984) was a Scottish footballer who played as a centre half for Motherwell, Chelsea and Scotland. Career Club Craig played junior football for Saltcoats Victoria until he signed for Motherwell in 1924. He was a key part of the side that won the Scottish league championship in the 1931–32 season, having also played in the 1931 Scottish Cup Final which Motherwell lost to Celtic after a replay, Craig scoring an unfortunate last-minute own goal in the first match (this was said to have resulted from a mistake in communication: a teammate shouted for 'Allan' to claim a cross ball and both he and goalkeeper Allan McClory did so, with the ball ending up in the net). He moved to Chelsea in 1933 and played for the West London club until the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939, making 211 appearances in the Football League and FA Cup. Allan McClory (11 November 1899 – 9 July 1983) was a Scottish footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Harthill Bluebell, Shotts United, Motherwell, Albion Rovers, Montrose and Brideville. The vast majority of his career was spent with Motherwell; he was part of the team which won the club's only Scottish Football League title in 1931–32 (the pinnacle of eight consecutive seasons in which they finished in the top three), and played in two Scottish Cup finals – 1931 and 1933, both lost to Celtic. The Scottish League XI was a representative side of the Scottish Football League. The team regularly played against the (English) Football League and other national league select teams between 1892 and 1980. For a long period the annual fixture between the English and Scottish leagues was only second in importance to the matches between the two national teams. The fixture declined in importance after regular European club competition was instituted in the 1950s; matches in the 1960s and 1970s were played irregularly and poorly attended. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. First played during the 1871–72 season, it is the oldest national football competition in the world. It is organised by and named after The Football Association (The FA). Since 2015, it has been known as The Emirates FA Cup after its headline sponsor. A concurrent women's tournament is also held, the Women's FA Cup.
