Allan Adler
Allan W. Adler (May 8, 1916 – December 3, 2002) was an American silversmith, known as "silversmith to the stars". Career He started his career when he was introduced to a man named Porter Blanchard by his uncle. Beginning his career as an apprentice in 1938, Adler designed silverware and holloware in shapes inspired by the Modernist art movement of the early 1900s. Adler began his career in 1938 and created silverware and holloware in shapes due to the emerging art of the early 1900s His name became associated with Hollywood glamour in the early 1940s, and he was commissioned to design mini-Oscars for Academy Award winners, crowns for Miss Universe and Miss USA, and silver bowls, candlesticks and goblets for celebrity clients. Porter Blanchard
Porter George Blanchard (1886–1973) was an American silversmith living and working in Pacoima, California. He is considered to have been part of the Arts and Crafts Movement. Career Blanchard learned the trade of the silversmith from his father, George Porter Blanchard in Gardner, Massachusetts. In 1923, Blanchard moved to Burbank, California, where he established a studio for silversmithing. Between the 1930s and 1950, he operated a shop in Hollywood. He then worked from his home in Pacoima from the 1940s until his death in 1973. His daughter Alice Blanchard married Lewis Wise, who conducted business as Porter Blanchard Silversmiths in Calabasas, California. After 1955, all Porter Blanchard flatware was made at the Calabasas shop, while the holloware was made at Blanchard's Pacoima home.
