Allamuchy Freight House
The Allamuchy Freight House is located in Allamuchy Township of Warren County, New Jersey. This freight house was built in 1906 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 23, 2002, for its significance in transportation. With It was built by the Lehigh and Hudson River Railway and is the only freight house on the line still extant. The structure is located approximately 3000 feet north of the County Route 612 (Johnsonburg Road) intersection at Alphano Road. It is roughly four miles south of the intersection of County Road 519 and County Road 617. There is a historic highway marker at the entrance to the site. History The Lehigh and Hudson River Railway built a rail line through Allamuchy in 1882. A passenger station for Allamuchy was built in 1885 and the freight house was built in 1906. The ''Ferdinand Magellan'' (also known as U.S. Car. No. 1) is a former Pullman Company observation car that served as Presidential Rail Car, U.S. Number 1 from 1943 until 1958. It is named after the Portuguese explorer. The current owner, Gold Coast Railroad Museum in Miami-Dade County, Florida, acquired it in 1959. The Historical Marker Database (HMdb.org) is an online database that documents locations of numerous historical markers in the United States as well as other countries. The database was launched in 2006 by computer programmer J. J. Prats. The HMdb served as the basis for the database for the online augmented reality game Ingress, which was then later repurposed for Pokémon Go. The HMdb was launched in 2006 with 179 markers that Prats had personally documented. By 2015 the site listed more than 74,000 markers. In addition to listing markers in the United States, the site also lists some markers from more than 40 other countries. By the start of 2018, the site documented more than 100,000 markers. Conrail
Conrail , formally the Consolidated Rail Corporation, was the primary Class I railroad in the Northeastern United States between 1976 and 1999. The trade name Conrail is a portmanteau based on the company's legal name. It continues to do business as an asset management and network services provider in three Shared Assets Areas that were excluded from the division of its operations during its acquisition by CSX Corporation and the Norfolk Southern Railway.
