All Tai Ahom Students Union (ATASU) or Chom Hom Lik Hen Tai Ahom Tang Mung in Ahom language is a students' union in Assam, India. History All Tai Ahom Students Union or ATASU is a students' organization in Assam, India founded in 14–15 July 1988. It is the leading students organization of the Tai Ahom people in the state. The Ahom people were the previous ruling community of the state of Assam in Northeastern part of India. Amrit Kumar Chetia, Promod Boruah, Daya Krishna Gogoi, Arun Gogoi, Puspadhar Saikia, Tutumoni Gogoi and Dimbeswar Gogoi, and Bhuban Gohain were the Chief Adviser, President, Working President, General Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Organizing Secretaries and Executive Member of the Founder Committee respectively. Dimbeswar Gogoi, was brutally murdered by ULFA on 3 November 1989. Ahom Language
The Ahom language or Tai-Ahom language is a dead language, that was spoken by the Ahom people, that is undergoing a revival. Ahom is an important language in Tai studies. It was relatively free of both Mon-Khmer and Indo-Aryan influences and has a written tradition dating back to the 13th century. The Ahom people established the Ahom kingdom and ruled parts of the Brahmaputra river valley in the present day Indian state of Assam between the 13th and the 18th centuries. The language was the court language of the kingdom, until it began to be replaced by the Assamese language in the 17th century. Since the early 18th century, there have been no native speakers of the language, though extensive manuscripts in the language still exist today. The tonal system of the language is entirely lost. Ahom People
The Ahom (Pron: ), or Tai-Ahom is an ethnic group from the Indian states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The members of this group are admixed descendants of the Tai people who reached the Brahmaputra valley of Assam in 1228 and the local indigenous people who joined them over the course of history. Sukaphaa, the leader of the Tai group and his 9000 followers established the Ahom kingdom (1228–1826 CE), which controlled much of the Brahmaputra Valley in modern Assam until 1826. The modern Ahom people and their culture are a syncretism of the original Tai and their culture and local Tibeto-Burman people and their cultures they absorbed in Assam. United Liberation Front Of Assam
The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) (Assamese: সংযুক্ত মুক্তি বাহিনী, অসম) is an armed separatist organisation operating in the Northeast Indian state of Assam. It seeks to establish an independent sovereign nation state of Assam for the indigenous Assamese people through an armed struggle in the Assam conflict. The Government of India banned the organisation in 1990 citing it as a terrorist organisation, while the United States Department of State lists it under "other groups of concern." According to ULFA sources, it was founded on 7 April 1979 at Rang Ghar and began operations in 1990.
