All Sports Team Hannover
The All Sports Team Hannover is a dragon boat team of the Hannoverschen Kanuclub v. 1921 e.V. from Germany. History The team was founded in 2000 by Denis Starke during the dragon races in Hannover which takes place yearly on Whitsundays. The team's name is based upon the variety of sports players who have been the core of the team at the early beginning. The paddlers were chosen for the team ''Verein zur Förderung des Spitzensports'' (Supporters club of top sports). This organization supported top sportsmen and women in many different sport activities. To improve the relationship among themselves and to have fun together the club sent regularly a fun team to the Whitsunday dragon boat races in Hanover. After winning several times the fun team titles some sportsmen decided to do dragon boat racing seriously and to join the canoe club HKC. Dragon Boat
A dragon boat is a human-powered watercraft originating from the Pearl River Delta region of China's southern Guangdong Province. These were made of teak, but in other parts of China, different kinds of wood are used. It is one of a family of traditional paddled long boats found throughout Asia, Africa, the Pacific islands, and Puerto Rico. The sport of dragon boat racing has its roots in an ancient folk ritual of contending villagers, which dates back 2000 years throughout southern China, and even further to the original games of Olympia in ancient Greece. Both dragon boat racing and the ancient Olympiad included aspects of religious observances and community celebrations, along with competitions. World Games
The World Games are an international multi-sport event comprising sports and sporting disciplines that are not contested in the Olympic Games. They are usually held every four years, one year after a Summer Olympic Games, over the course of 11 days. The World Games are governed by the International World Games Association, under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee. The International Canoe Federation (ICF) is the umbrella organization of all national canoe organizations worldwide. The International Dragon Boat Federation () is the international governing body for the team watersport of dragon boat racing. The Founder of the IDBF was Mike MacKeddie-Haslam (Great Britain) and the IDBF Founding Members in Hong Kong the on June 24, 1991 were Australia, China, Taiwan, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Norway, the Philippines, Singapore, and the United States .
