"All Hope Is Gone" is a song by American heavy metal band Slipknot, released as the first single and title track from the album ''All Hope Is Gone''. It was released on June 20, 2008, as a free MP3 on the band's website, after which it was released as a paid download on June 23. The song was originally announced by blabbermouth.net to be "a heavier track" from ''All Hope Is Gone'', scheduled to begin airplay on June 15. "All Hope Is Gone" is also the first title track from a Slipknot album to be released as a single. Themes and production In an interview with ''Kerrang!'' drummer Joey Jordison revealed that "All Hope Is Gone" is a true collaborative effort between the band and was one of the final songs recorded for the band's fourth studio album of the same name. Slipknot is an American heavy metal band formed in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1995 by percussionist Shawn Crahan, drummer Joey Jordison and bassist Paul Gray. After several lineup changes in its early years, the band settled on nine members for more than a decade: Crahan, Jordison, Gray, Craig Jones, Mick Thomson, Corey Taylor, Sid Wilson, Chris Fehn, and Jim Root. Gray died on May 24, 2010, and was replaced during 2011–2014 by guitarist Donnie Steele. Jordison was dismissed from the band on December 12, 2013. Steele left during the recording sessions for '' .5: The Gray Chapter''. The band found replacements in Alessandro Venturella on bass and Jay Weinberg on drums. Paul Gray (Slipknot)
Paul Dedrick Gray (April 8, 1972 – May 24, 2010) was an American musician, also known as the Pig. He was the bassist, backing vocalist, main songwriter and one of the founding members of the heavy metal band Slipknot, in which he was designated #2. Early life and career Paul Dedrick Gray was born in Los Angeles, California. Later his family relocated to Des Moines, Iowa. He played guitar but switched to bass after he relocated to Iowa. In his youth, Gray performed in bands such as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, Anal Blast, Vexx, Body Pit, The Have Nots and Inveigh Catharsis. At the time of his death, he was one of three original members of Slipknot remaining in the band, and the only one who had maintained his original role in the band due to Clown's switch from main drums to percussion during the early days.
