All-Ireland Senior Club Camogie Championship 1964
The 1964 inaugural All-Ireland Senior Club Camogie Championship for the leading clubs in the women's team field sport of camogie was won by Celtic Camogie Club, Celtic, who defeated Deirdre Camogie Club, Deirdre in the final, played at Croke Park. The attendance at the final included Séamus Ó Braonáin, who had refereed the very first camogie matches in 1904 and his wife, Brigid Dillon who played in the practice match in the Phoenix Park and the first camogie match in Navan. An anonymous donor provided an unusual silver cup, known as the ‘Jubilee Cup’, which Celtic Camogie Club were allowed to keep. Arrangements The championship was organised to mark the Diamond Jubilee of the Camogie Association and followed the traditional provincial system used in Gaelic Games since the 1880s, with Glen Rovers and Newport winning the championships of the other two provinces. Celtic is a camogie club, winner of the Dublin Championship on 12 occasions and the inaugural winner of the All-Ireland Senior Club Camogie Championship in 1964.. Dublin did not send a representative in 1965, so they did not defend their title. Grounds The Celtic camogie club was formed in the Coolock area of Dublin by the Keegan sisters in 1929. Glen Rovers is a Cork (city), Cork-based Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Blackpool, Cork, Ireland. The club was founded in 1916 and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. They were Cork senior hurling champions in 2015 and 2016, having won their first title in 26 years in 2015. They retained the championship in 2016, when they beat Erin's Own in the final. Only Blackrock have won more Cork senior hurling championships. Hurling Colours In the early days of the club, its colours were green, white and gold. Kevin Heffernan (Gaelic Footballer)
Kevin Heffernan (20 August 1929 – 25 January 2013) was an Irish Gaelic footballer and manager who played as a left corner-forward at senior level for the Dublin county team. Heffernan made his debut during the 1948 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the 1962 championship. During that time he won one All-Ireland medal, four Leinster medals and three National League medals. An All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion, Heffernan captained the team to the All-Ireland title in 1958. At club level Heffernan enjoyed a lengthy career with St. Vincent's. He won fifteen county football championship medals and six county hurling championship medals. In retirement from playing Heffernan became involved in coaching and team management. William Robert Casey (23 May 1918 – 3 March 1999) was an Irish sportsperson. He played Gaelic football with his local club Dingle and later Lispole and was a member of the Kerry senior inter-county team from 1938 until 1949.
