All-American News was a film production company in the U.S. bringing war propaganda newsreels and entertainment films to African American audiences. Emmanuel M. Glucksman was a film industry veteran who produced All-American News films for African American audiences. He was paired with young African American filmmaker William D. Alexander, who worked on the newsreel production team, narrated, and did interviews, and Claude Barnett, an experienced journalist who also helped produce the films. Josh Binney directed some of the films. The Library of Congress has a collection of All-American newsreels and films. Claude Barnett
Claude Albert Barnett (September 16, 1889 – August 2, 1967) was an American journalist, publisher, entrepreneur, philanthropist, civic activist, Pan-Africanist, and founder of the Associated Negro Press (ANP). He started the first international news agency for black newspapers. He was an advocate against segregation in the military and blood supply. He was an activist force in journalism. He promoted Pan-Africanism. The (ANP) documented the Civil Rights Movement in the United States of America, and struggles for independence in Africa. Associated Negro Press was a Pan-African news service. Claude Barnett, Robert S. Abbott, and John H. Josh Binney
Harold "Josh" Binney (1889 - 1956) was an actor, film producer, film company executive, and film director in the United States. He worked as an actor before establishing the Florida Film Company in Jacksonville, Florida in 1918 and produced and producing their films through his Harold J. Binney Productions division. He moved on to Canada and then Sonoma, California. Early life Harold Joshua Binney was born in Kansas City. ''The Negro Sailor'' is a 1945 documentary short film made for the U.S. Navy and shown by All-American News, a company producing newsreels and later feature films for the race film market. It was directed by Henry Levin. The film was inspired by the success of the film The Negro Soldier, and was one of only five films documenting the war time activities of African Americans in a positive light before 1950. Released after the surrender of Japan the film highlights the service of African Americans seaman. Plot At an African-American newspaper, Bill Johnson, one of the employees enlists in the US Navy. Frank Roberts, the sports editor for the paper convinces the newspaper's editor it would be a great idea for the paper to publish a column called "The Navy Team" where Frank would write about Frank's experience in the Navy. ''It Happened in Harlem'' is an American musical comedy film directed by Bud Pollard and starring Chris Columbus, Phil Gomez, and Nicky O'Daniel. It was the penultimate feature film of All-American News, a company that made newsreels for black Americans.
