Alison Hulme
Alison Hulme is an English chemist and Professor of Synthesis and Chemical Biology. Her research considers natural products and synthesis. She was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and awarded the Royal Society of Chemistry Bader Award in 2021. Early life and education Hulme became interested in chemistry as a child. Her grandfather was a metallurgist at Procter & Gamble and her mother was a high school biology teacher. She spent her childhood doing experiments at home, and particularly enjoyed being able to play with microscopes. She was a member of the UK team at the International Chemistry Olympiad. Hulme eventually studied Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge. After graduating in Hulme started a doctoral research programme with Ian Paterson. She worked as a research fellow with Albert I. Meyers at Colorado State University. Phoebe Sarah Hertha Ayrton (28 April 1854 – 26 August 1923) was a British engineer, mathematician, physicist and inventor, and suffragette. Known in adult life as Hertha Ayrton, born Phoebe Sarah Marks, she was awarded the Hughes Medal by the Royal Society for her work on electric arcs and ripple marks in sand and water. Stimulated Raman Scattering
Raman scattering or the Raman effect () is the inelastic scattering of photons by matter, meaning that there is both an exchange of energy and a change in the light's direction. Typically this effect involves vibrational energy being gained by a molecule as incident photons from a visible laser are shifted to lower energy. This is called normal Stokes Raman scattering. The college was established in 1869 by Emily Davies and Barbara Bodichon as the first women's college in Cambridge. Albert Meyers
Albert I. Meyers (November 22, 1932 – October 23, 2007) was an American organic chemist, University Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Colorado State University, and member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. Born in New York City, Meyers earned undergraduate and doctoral degrees from New York University in 1954 and 1957, respectively. After finishing his graduate degree, Meyers worked as a research chemist for a year before joining the faculty of Louisiana State University as an associate professor. He rose to the rank of full professor in 1964, and was a special NIH fellow at Harvard University in 1965-1966.
