Alison Bell (politician)
Alison Mary Spencer Bell Fok, JP (; 28 January 1925 – 8 April 2021) was a Scottish-born Hong Kong doctor and politician. She was the first woman to be elected to the Urban Council of Hong Kong. Early life Bell was born in Glasgow, Scotland in January 1925. She was the daughter of John Bell, Senior Partner of James Spencer & Company of Glasgow. She was educated at Rothesay House School, Edinburgh, where she was head girl and captain of games. Professional career Bell graduated from the University of Edinburgh with the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1948. She then took up the post of Canadian Red Cross Memorial Hospital till she married Dr. Peter Hin-tak Fok in 1949. She moved to Hong Kong in 1949. She was an anaesthetist at Kowloon Hospital and after that in private practice until 1951 when she started her private practice. A justice of the peace (JP) is a judicial officer of a lower or ''puisne'' court, elected or appointed by means of a commission ( letters patent) to keep the peace. In past centuries the term commissioner of the peace was often used with the same meaning. The Family Planning Association of Hong Kong (FPAHK) is a voluntary organisation that promotes family planning in Hong Kong. The current Executive Director is Dr Lam Wai-cheung, Mona. The headquarters of FPAHK is located in , Wan Chai. History The Association was founded in 1936 as the Hong Kong Eugenics League (香港優生學會). In 1950, it changed its name officially to The Family Planning Association of Hong Kong. It became one of the founding members of the International Planned Parenthood Federation in 1952. In 1956, it set up the first subfertility clinic. In 1955, the Hong Kong government began subsidising FPAHK's activities. Hong Kong Court Of Final Appeal
The Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal (HKCFA or CFA) is the final appellate court of Hong Kong. It was established on 1 July 1997, upon the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, replacing the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council as the highest judicial institution under Hong Kong law. As defined in Articles 19 and 85 of the Basic Law of Hong Kong, the Court of Final Appeal "exercises judicial power in the Region independently and free from any interference." Joseph Fok
Joseph Paul Fok (, born 24 September 1962) is a Permanent Judge of the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal. At 51 years and 28 days, he is the third youngest-ever judge to be appointed to the Court of Final Appeal, behind only Kemal Bokhary and Andrew Li (Andrew Li was appointed directly to the Chief Justice position). Early life Fok is one of five children of Dr Alison Bell and Dr Peter Fok Hin-tak. Fok obtained a Bachelor of Laws with honours from University College London in the United Kingdom in 1984. He attended the Inns of Court School of Law and passed the Bar Examination in 1985. He was called to the English Bar in 1985 and to the Hong Kong Bar in 1986.
