Alise (album)
''Alise'' is the third album by Latvian band Dzeltenie Pastnieki, released through magnitizdat in 1984, and 'officially' as late as 2004. The album was based on the music the band recorded for an amateur stage adaptation of Lewis Carroll's ''Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'' (1865) and ''Through the Looking-Glass'' (1871), directed by Andris Zeibots. Vizma Belševica
Vizma Belševica (May 30, 1931 – August 6, 2005) was a Latvian poet, writer and translator. She was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature. Biography Belševica was born in Riga. Her father Žanis Belševics was a worker, and her mother Vera Belševica (maiden name Cīrule) was a housewife. The family was relatively poor, as only one of the two spouses did paid work. Vizma's father had drinking problems, which aggravated when during the Great Depression he lost his job as a baker. Vizma Belševica was born on May 30, 1931, in prewar Riga, then the capital of democratic Latvia, where she spent most of her childhood. The city often is featured in her works, especially her most famous work—autobiographic trilogy "BILLE"—, but the time spent in Courland, on her relatives' small farm has also an important role in her poetry and writings. The compact disc (CD) is a Digital media, digital optical disc data storage format that was co-developed by Philips and Sony to store and play digital audio recordings. In August 1982, the first compact disc was manufactured. It was then released in October 1982 in Japan and branded as ''Compact Disc Digital Audio, Digital Audio Compact Disc''. The format was later adapted (as CD-ROM) for general-purpose data storage. Mārtiņš Brauns
Mārtiņš Brauns (17 September 1951 – 24 November 2021) was a Latvian composer and musician. He composed multiple pieces, most notable of which is '' Saule, Pērkons, Daugava'', a choir song regularly performed at the Latvian Song and Dance Festival. Career Brauns studied at the Emīls Dārziņš Music School from 1958 to 1970, studying piano and choir, before moving on to study conducting and music theory after his voice started changing. He then studied at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music between 1970 and 1976. From 1975 to 1986, he led the rock band . From 1986 and until his death, Brauns was a member of the Latvian Filmmakers Union and has composed music for various films. In addition to film scores, Brauns wrote and composed multiple pieces for various theatre plays. Jabberwocky
"Jabberwocky" is a nonsense poem written by Lewis Carroll about the killing of a creature named "the Jabberwock". It was included in his 1871 novel ''Through the Looking-Glass'', the sequel to ''Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'' (1865). The book tells of Alice's adventures within the back-to-front world of Looking-glass world. In an early scene in which she first encounters the chess piece characters White King and White Queen, Alice finds a book written in a seemingly unintelligible language. Realising that she is travelling through an inverted world, she recognises that the verses on the pages are written in mirror-writing. She holds a mirror to one of the poems and reads the reflected verse of "Jabberwocky". She finds the nonsense verse as puzzling as the odd land she has passed into, later revealed as a dreamscape.
