Aline Charigot
Aline Victorine Charigot (23 May 1859 – 27 June 1915) was a model for Auguste Renoir and later became his wife while continuing to model for him and then caring for him when he became disabled. She is pictured in many of his paintings over very many years, most famously in the early 1880s ''Luncheon of the Boating Party'' (where she is the woman on the left with the little dog), and '' Blonde Bather''. They had three children together, two of whom, Pierre and Jean, went on to have distinguished careers in film, and the third, Claude, became a ceramic artist. Pierre had a son Claude who became the well-known cinematographer. She predeceased her elderly husband. Essoyes
Essoyes () is a commune in the Aube department in north-central France. Impressionist artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir had a house in the town. The village, hometown of his wife Aline and model and governess of his children Gabrielle Renard, is represented in many of his paintings. Geography Essoyes is a quiet Champagne village located about thirty miles south of Troyes, on the banks of the Ource river. The Ource, a tributary of the Seine, was well loved by Renoir. With 745 inhabitants, the thirteen square mile village is found at the center of Champagne's Côte des Bar, on the border of Champagne and Bourgogne. Suzanne Valadon
Suzanne Valadon (23 September 18657 April 1938) was a French painter who was born Marie-Clémentine Valadon at Bessines-sur-Gartempe, Haute-Vienne, France. In 1894, Valadon became the first woman painter admitted to the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. She was also the mother of painter Maurice Utrillo. Valadon spent nearly 40 years of her life as an artist. The subjects of her drawings and paintings, such as '' Joy of Life'' (1911), included mostly female nudes, portraits of women, still lifes, and landscapes. She never attended the academy and was never confined within a tradition. She was a model for many renowned artists. ''Dance in the Country'' (French: ''Danse à la campagne'') is an 1883 oil painting by French artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir. It is currently kept at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. Background This painting was commissioned in 1882 by the merchant Paul Durand-Ruel who wanted works on the theme of the ball. He bought it in 1886, exhibited it for the first time in April 1883, and kept it until Renoir's death in 1919. Two complementary painting on the same theme, named '' Dance in the City'' and '' Dance at Bougival'', were also painted by Renoir the same year. ''Blonde Bather'' (''La baigneuse blonde'') is the name of two very similar paintings by French painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir, created in 1881 and 1882. The model was Aline Charigot, later to become Renoir's wife. Influenced by Renaissance painting (particularly Raphael's frescoes) that Renoir saw in Italy in 1881, both paintings show a marked change of style from Renoir's previous work.
