Alifereti Dere
Alifereti Dere (born 29 September 1961) is a Fijian former rugby union footballer and coach. He played as a Rugby union/flanker, flanker. Along with fellow Fijian rugby players Mesake Rasari, Niko Baleiverata, Fili Seru, Kinivuwai Ratuvio, Pita Naruma, Etuate Gusuivalu, Manasa Bari, Marika Vunibaka and Pauliasi Tabulutu, he gained widespread success in the sport of rugby. He played also for the Army Rugby Club, from Suva. Career His first international cap was against Wales, at Suva, on 31 March 1986. Although not taking part to the 1987 Rugby World Cup due to having departed the previous year, due to a tour of duty with Fiji troops in the United Nations' interim force in Lebanon. He was also part of the 1991 Rugby World Cup roster, where he played 3 matches. His last cap was during the World Cup pool match against Romania, at Brive-La-Gaillarde. Suva
Suva () is the capital and largest city of Fiji. It is the home of the country's largest metropolitan area and serves as its major port. The city is located on the southeast coast of the island of Viti Levu, in Rewa Province, Central Division. 1991 Rugby World Cup
The 1991 Rugby World Cup was the second edition of the Rugby World Cup, and was jointly hosted by England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and France: at the time, the five European countries who participated in the Five Nations Championship. This was the first Rugby World Cup to be staged in the northern hemisphere, with England the hosts of the final. Also for the first time, qualifying competitions were introduced as the number of entrants had increased from 16 nations four years before to a total of 33 countries. The eight quarter-finalists from 1987 qualified automatically with the remaining eight spots contested through qualifiers by 25 countries. This resulted in only one new side qualifying for the tournament, Western Samoa replacing Tonga. The same 16-team pool/knock-out format was used with just minor changes to the points system.
