Alien8 Recordings Artists
Alien8 Recordings is an independent record label founded in 1996 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The label was founded by Sean O'Hara and Gary Worsley. The label released material from prominent noise music, noise artists such as Merzbow, Think About Life, Aube (musician), Aube, Keiji Haino, Masonna, MSBR, Francisco López (musician), Francisco López, Bastard Noise, and Daniel Menche, as well as Electronic music, electronic artists such as Tim Hecker, Lesbians on Ecstasy, Les Georges Leningrad, and Books on Tape (artist), Books on Tape. Alien8 also is known for releasing the 2003 debut of indie-pop band The Unicorns. It also had two sub-labels, Fancy Recordings and Substractif, which released music from 2001-2004. In 2018, Worsley bought Montreal's famed record store Cheap Thrills, where he had been working since 1998. Alien8 has not released any music since 2011. Noise Music
Noise music is a genre of music that is characterised by the expressive use of noise within a musical context. Shalabi Effect is a mostly instrumental band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The band was originally formed in 1996 as a duo composed of Anthony Seck and Sam Shalabi. Shalabi is an Egyptian-Canadian musician who is also the founder of Swamp Circuit, Detention, Nutsak, The Dwarfs of East Agouza, Moose Terrific and the orchestra Land of Kush. Seck is a filmmaker and member of the supergroup Valley of the Giants. History Shalabi and Seck independently released their first recording, a self-titled limited-edition cassette, in 1998. They then added Montreal artist and musician Alexandre Saint-Onge on double bass, and Will Eizlini on tablas and recorded the song "Aural Florida" at Red Rocket Studios in Montreal. Christof Migone is a Swiss-born experimental sound artist and writer, formerly based in Montreal, now living in Toronto. ''Shalabi Effect'' is the eponymous debut album of Shalabi Effect. The album cover is taken from the famous Eagle Nebula Pillars of Creation photo made by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. The album began with the song "Aural Florida", which was originally going to be on a split release with Godspeed You! Loren Mazzacane Connors (born October 22, 1949) is an American guitarist who has recorded and performed under several different names: Guitar Roberts, Loren Mazzacane, Loren Mattei, and currently Loren Connors. His music has touched on many genres, but often features an abstract or experimental version of blues and folk styles. Biography Connors was born in New Haven, Connecticut, United States, and studied art at Southern Connecticut State University and the University of Cincinnati in the early 1970s, before deciding to pursue music rather than painting. Knurl (band)
Knurl is the noise music project of Canadian experimental composer Alan Bloor. Based in Quebec, the composer has been performing and recording as Knurl since 1994, the year of project's seminal harsh noise release "Initial Shock." As Knurl, Alan Bloor has released over one hundred albums internationally and has performed with Jim O'Rourke and Thurston Moore. He has also played in festivals and performances worldwide in countries such as Japan, Turkey, and the United States. Biography Alan Bloor, originally from Windsor, Ontario, was involved in several bands in the early 80s, including a hardcore punk band called ''Binge of Violence.''
