Alice Merryweather
Alice Merryweather (born October 5, 1996) is a World Cup alpine ski racer from the United States, and competes primarily in the speed events, downhill and super-G. Born and raised in Hingham, Massachusetts, she graduated from Stratton Mountain School in Vermont and plans to attend Dartmouth College Merryweather won the gold medal in the downhill at the World Junior Championships in 2017. She was named to the 2018 U.S. Olympic Team, and was fifteenth in the combined event. She made her first World Cup top ten in January 2019 with an eighth in the downhill at Garmisch, Germany. Downhill (ski Competition)
Downhill is a form of alpine skiing competition. Whereas the other alpine skiing events (Slalom skiing, slalom, Giant slalom skiing, giant slalom, Super Giant Slalom skiing, super giant slalom, and alpine skiing combined, combined) emphasize turning and technique, downhill emphasizes "the six components of technique, courage, speed, risk, physical condition and judgement", according to the International Ski Federation, FIS "International Ski Competition Rules (ICR)".. Super-G
Super giant slalom, or super-G, is a racing discipline of alpine skiing. Along with the faster downhill, it is regarded as a "speed" event, in contrast to the technical events giant slalom and slalom. It debuted as an official World Cup event during the 1983 season and was added to the official schedule of the World Championships in 1987 and the Winter Olympics in 1988. Much like downhill, a super-G course consists of widely set gates that racers must pass through. The course is set so that skiers must turn more than in downhill, though the speeds are still much higher than in giant slalom (hence the name). Each athlete only has one run to clock the best time. Rosa Khutor Alpine Resort
The Rosa Khutor Alpine Resort ( rus, Ро́за Ху́тор, r=Roza Khutor, p=ˈrozə ˈxutər) is an alpine ski resort in Krasnodar Krai, Russia, located at the Aibga Ridge of the Western Caucasus along the Roza Khutor plateau near Krasnaya Polyana. Bansko ( bg, Банско ) is a town in southwestern Bulgaria, located at the foot of the Pirin, Pirin Mountains at an elevation of 1200m AMSL, above sea level. It is a ski resort. Garmisch Classic
Garmisch Classic is an alpine ski area in the Bavarian Alps of southern Germany, near Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria. Its maximum elevation is above sea level at Osterfelderkopf, with a vertical drop of . Other peaks of ski area are the Kreuzjoch at and Kreuzeck at . The International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Ski World Cup was the premier circuit for alpine skiing competition. The inaugural season launched in January 1967, and the season marks the 53rd consecutive year for the FIS World Cup. This season began in October 2018 in Sölden, Austria, and concluded in mid-March 2019 at the finals in Soldeu, Andorra. Alpine Skiing At The 2018 Winter Olympics – Women's Combined
The women's combined competition of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics was held on 22 February 2018 at the Jeongseon Alpine Centre and the Yongpyong Alpine Centre at the Alpensia Sports Park in PyeongChang. Qualification A total of up to 320 alpine skiers qualified across all eleven events. Athletes qualified for this event by having met the A qualification standard only, which meant having 140 or less FIS Points and being ranked in the top 500 in the Olympic FIS points list.
