Alice Lang (born 18 March 1983) is an Australian contemporary artist. She works and lives in Los Angeles, CA. Lang has mounted many solo exhibitions of her work, and participated extensively in group exhibitions. She has held residencies in Canada, New York, and Los Angeles. Lang's work is often feminist in nature, utilising mixed media. The churchie emerging art prize, formerly the churchie national emerging art prize and also known informally as the churchie, is a national Australian non-acquisitive art award and art exhibition, established in 1987. History The award was established in 1987 as an initiative of the Anglican Church Grammar School in Brisbane (known as "Churchie"). Brand + Slater Architects became the major prize sponsors from around 1998. From 2010, the finalists were exhibited in the Griffith University Art Gallery (GUAG) at the Queensland College of Art in Brisbane. Its name was at that time "the churchie national emerging art prize". Melbourne International Comedy Festival
The Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF) is the largest stand-alone comedy festival and the second-largest international comedy festival in the world. Established in 1987, it takes place annually in Melbourne over four weeks, typically starting in March and running through to April. Artbank
Artbank is an art rental program established in 1980 by the Australian Government. It supports contemporary Australian artists and encourages a wider appreciation of their work by buying artworks which it then rents to public and private sector clients. History Artbank was modelled on Canada's Art Bank, after then federal minister for the arts, Bob Ellicott, saw the Ottawa collection in 1979 and convinced Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser of the value of the idea. Fraser was enthusiastic, but treasurer John Howard took a little more convincing, before allotting in seed funding. The collection was founded in 1980 with an endowment of 600 artworks from the National Gallery of Australia.
