Alice Beer
Alice Beer (born 17 May 1965) is an English television presenter and consumer journalist. She is best known for appearing on the British consumer investigative journalism programme ''Watchdog'' on BBC One between 1993 and 1999, and as the consumer presenter on '' This Morning'' since 2014. Career Beer trained as a primary school teacher from 1983 to 1987 at Roehampton Institute of Higher Education but her first job in 1987 was as a secretary on the BBC programme ''That's Life!'' She was later a researcher, then a producer, on ''Kilroy'' and '' Gloria Live''. From 1992 until 1999 she was co presenter on the BBC consumer programme ''Watchdog'' with Anne Robinson. After leaving ''Watchdog'' she appeared on programmes including ''Healthcheck'', ''Face Value'' and ''Real Rakeovers'', as well as reporting for ''Holiday'' and ''Summer Holiday''. ''Watchdog'' is a British consumer investigative journalism programme, broadcast on BBC One from 1985 to 2019. The programme focused on investigating complaints and concerns made by viewers and consumers over problematic experiences with traders, retailers and other companies around the UK, over customer services, products, security, and possible fraudulent/criminal behaviour. Since it first began, the programme had achieved great success in changing the awareness consumers have of their purchasing rights, as well as pushing forward for changes in company policies and consumer laws, and in some cases helping to close down businesses whose practices have left many people dissatisfied and out of pocket. ''Bremner, Bird and Fortune'' is a satirical British television programme produced by Vera Productions for Channel Four, uniting the longstanding satirical team of John Bird and John Fortune ("the Two Johns") with the satirical impressionist Rory Bremner. It had 16 series, followed by several one-off episodes. History ''Now Something Else'' Rory Bremner's first television series started in 1986 on BBC Two, which ran for seven series. Xtraview
Xtraview was a British pay-per-view television channel run by Top Up TV. It replaced Top Up TV Sampler, a promotional channel showing Top Up TV's latest offers presented by Alice Beer. Xtraview showed a selection of programs from the Top Up TV package, at a cost of one pound per day. It ceased broadcasting on 31 August 2005 at 11.00pm due to lack of space on the DTT platform after Top Up TV's short-term lease with Channel 4 on multiplex 2 expired in September 2005, and has since been replaced with More 4. The official reason stated on the channel is that it is being "modified", however no developments were made and this screen was shown from its demise to March 2006. The channel used the Xtraview Encryption System, making the channel vulnerable to hacking. Top Up TV Promo was a digital television Barker channel broadcast in the United Kingdom to promote services offered by Top Up TV. The channel launched on 18 September 2006, and closed on 6 October 2013. The channel broadcast a looped promotional video, presented by Craig Doyle, advertising Top Up TV's new ''Anytime'' service. The channel broadcast free to air on digital terrestrial television between 6:00 am and noon each day. The channel was used in conjunction with MHEG generated Top Up TV Active on channel 107, which is a text-based information service available 24 hours a day, informing viewers how to subscribe, costs and other information. A similar channel, known as ''Top Up TV Sampler'', was also broadcast by Top Up TV between December 2004 and February 2005 on channel 36, presented by Alice Beer. Top Up TV was a pay TV service in the United Kingdom which launched in March 2004, operating on the digital terrestrial television platform. The aim of the service was to "top up" Freeview customers by providing additional content and services through encrypted TV channels unavailable to other viewers. The service offered a variety of content from various providers through 'TV Favourites', and old and low-budget movies from NBCUniversal through PictureBox Movies, all of which could be viewed on demand. Top Up TV formerly offered live premium sports channels including ESPN, Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2.
