Alice Aryeetey
Alice Aryeetey is a Ghanaian broadcast journalist and news reporter who currently works with GHOne TV. She won the Best TV News Reporter of the Year Award at the 2019 Ghana Journalists Association awards. Early life and education She graduated with a BSc. in Communication Studies from Ghana Institute of Journalism. Career She began as a journalist and deputy news editor of GHOne TV since 2016. She also leads a group of volunteers who help families with children living with disabilities. In 2021, she was selected for the 2021 Mandela Washington fellowship. Awards and recognition Aryeetey was the first journalist to be recognized and awarded by the Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations through their Disability Excellence awards scheme and she won the Best TV News Reporter and Best SDGs Reporter at the 2019 Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) awards. Ghana Institute Of Journalism
The Ghana Institute of Journalism is a public university in Ghana. The institute has accreditation from the National Accreditation Board. History The Ghana Institute of Journalism was established on 16 October 1959 by Kwame Nkrumah, the first president of Ghana. Kwame Nkrumah had a vision to train a patriotic cadre corps of journalists to play an effective role in the emancipation of the African continent hence established the Ghana Institute of Journalism. The school was formally called School of Journalism which was a department at the Accra Technical Institute now Accra Technical University. The school had Mr Richard McMillan who was then due for retirement as the Director of the British Information Services in Ghana as its first principal and journalism tutor. The Ghanaian people are a nation originating in the Ghanaian Gold Coast. The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) is the umbrella organization to which all journalists in Ghana belong. The current president is Mr Albert Kwabena Dwumfour. Founded in 1949, the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has become the umbrella organization representing Ghanaian journalists. It is registered as a professional association and listed as one of several bodies on the board of the National Media Commission. Mandela Washington Fellowship
The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is an initiative of the United States Department of State. It was begun in 2010 by President Barack Obama. YALI is a programme aimed at educating and networking young African leaders with activities including the Mandela Washington Fellowship that brings them to study in the United States for six weeks, with follow-up resources, and student exchange programs. In 2014, the program was expanded to include four regional "leadership centers" in Ghana, Kenya, Senegal and South Africa. 500 participants in the Mandela Washington Fellowship arrived in the United States on June 16, 2014.
