Charles Ray (actor)
Charles Edgar Ray (March 15, 1891 – November 23, 1943) was an American actor, director, producer, and screenwriter. Ray rose to fame during the mid-1910s portraying young, wholesome hicks in silent comedy films. Early life Ray was born in Jacksonville, Illinois, and moved to Springfield as a child where he attended elementary school. He then moved to Needles, California, for a time before finally relocating to Los Angeles where he finished his education. He began his career on the stage before working for director Thomas H. Ince as a film extra in December 1912. He appeared in several bit parts before moving on to supporting roles. Ray's break came in 1915 when he appeared opposite Frank Keenan in the historical war drama '' The Coward''. Barbara Bedford (born Violet May Rose; July 19, 1903 – October 25, 1981) was an American actress who appeared in dozens of silent movies. Her career declined after the introduction of sound, but she continued to appear in small roles until 1945. Early life Barbara Bedford was born Violet May Rose on July 19, 1903, the first child to Robert William Rose, a Scottish-American interior decorator, and Barbara Rose (née Fish), who was a first generation Czech-American. She had a brother, William Rose. The 1910 census lists the family as living in Denver, Colorado. She was educated in Chicago and attended Lake View High School. According to Bedford, prior to becoming an actress, she taught swimming, dancing, and gymnastics and worked as an accountant. Tom Wilson (August 27, 1880 – February 19, 1965) was an American film actor. Biography Wilson was born in Helena, Montana, in 1880. Appearing in more than 300 films between 1915 and 1963, Wilson had notable supporting roles in the silent film era, like "The Kindly Officer" in D. W. Griffith's epic ''Intolerance'' (1916), the angry policeman in Charlie Chaplin's ''The Kid'' (1921), and a boxing coach in Buster Keaton's comedy ''Battling Butler'' (1926). After the rise of sound film, he was reduced to small roles for the rest of his long film career. Wilson died in 1965 in Los Angeles, California.
