Ali Abdel Aal
Ali Abdel Aal Sayyed Ahmed ( ar, علي عبد العال; born 29 November 1948) is an Egyptian law professor and politician. He was Speaker of the House of Representatives between 10 January 2016 and 12 January 2021. As law professor he worked at Ain Shams University and specialized in constitutional law. Career Abdel Aal was born on 29 November 1948, in Nagaa El-Shaikh Ibrahim, Daraw, Aswan Governorate. He studied law and obtained a degree from Ain Shams University in 1972. The next year he started working as a deputy to a prosecutor. In 1974 he became a university lecturer. Ten years later he obtained his PhD in State at the University of Paris. Abdel Aal was cultural attaché in the city of his alma mater from 1987 to 1991. The next year he served as constitutional advisor to the Parliament of Egypt. The speaker of the House of Representatives ( ar, رئيس مجلس النواب) presides over the sessions of the House of Representatives of Egypt with functions similar to that of a speaker in other countries. In case of the vacancy of the presidential office or the permanent incapacitation of the president, the speaker of the People's Assembly shall temporarily assume the presidency for a maximum period of 60 days. 2015 Egyptian Parliamentary Election
Egyptian parliamentary elections to the House of Representatives were held in two phases, from 17 October to 2 December 2015. 2020 Egyptian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Egypt on 24–25 October and 7–8 November 2020 to elect the House of Representatives. Date The elections were initially expected to be held in April or May 2020. President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi ordered parliament to freeze its activities on 1 October 2019 and placed the National Security Agency (NSA) in charge of creating lists of candidates as the General Intelligence Directorate (GID) had not satisfactorily selected candidates in the previous election.
