Algoma Avalanche
The Algoma Avalanche were a Canadian Junior ice hockey team based in Thessalon, Ontario, Canada. They played in the Greater Metro Junior 'A' Hockey League. History The Avalanche were formed in the summer of 2009. The Avalanche are the first junior team in Thessalon since the folding of the Thessalon Flyers of the North of Superior Junior B Hockey League. On September 12, 2009, the Avalanche played their first game. On the road, Algoma lost 7-4 to the Deseronto Storm. The next evening, the Avalanche traveled to Beaverton, Ontario and picked up their first win, beating the Brock Bucks 6-3. On September 25, 2009, the Avalanche played their first home game and defeated their local rival Elliot Lake Bobcats 4-2. The Muskoka Shield are a Canadian junior ice hockey team based in Gravenhurst, Ontario. The Shield are members of the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). History The Shield are a community-based team with a number of corporate sponsors helping the team to be a viable club. Originally playing in Gravenhurst, Ontario, the Shield followed the Gravenhurst Indians and the Gravenhurst Cubs who played in the Georgian Mid-Ontario Junior C Hockey League from 1980 to 1987 and 1994 to 2000, respectively. The Oro-Medonte 77's were a Junior ice hockey team based out of Oro-Medonte, Ontario, Canada. Their arena was in the community of Guthrie, Ontario. They played in the Greater Metro Junior 'A' Hockey League. History In April 2008, it was announced that Oro-Medonte had received its first junior hockey club since 1992. In May it was announced that the club would be known as the Oro-Medonte 77's. The name pays homage to Oro's long hockey history, and the team's predecessor the Oro 77's who participated in the Georgian Bay Junior C Hockey League from 1977 until 1992 On September 15, 2008, the Oro-Medonte 77's played their first ever GMHL game, on the road, in Richmond Hill against the Ontario Lightning Rams. The Toronto Blue Ice Jets were a Junior ice hockey team based out of Thornhill, Ontario, Canada. The team played in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). History The Jets were Thornhill's only Junior hockey team after the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League's Toronto Thunderbirds relocated to King City to become the Villanova Knights. They were founded as the Toronto Canada Moose in the inaugural year of the GMHL in the 2006–07 season as one of seven original league members. The Parry Sound Islanders were a Junior ice hockey team based out of Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada. They played in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League. History In 2007, Ville-Marie first attempted to form a team in one of the established Ontario junior hockey leagues, making offers to both the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League and the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League. The GMHL turned down the offer due to their acceptance of a Temiscaming franchise that would have been compromised due to proximity. The NOJHL looked like they were going to accept the organization but the deal fell through in late summer. The NOJHL claimed that the Ville-Marie franchise would probably join in 2008. The Cochrane Crunch are a Canadian junior ice hockey team based out of Cochrane, Ontario, Canada. They play in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League and are former members of the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League.
