Algiza
Algiza is a former ancient city (under the name Argiza) and bishopric in Asia Minor, now a Latin Catholic titular see. Its modern location is Baliapasakov in Asian Turkey. History Algiza was important enough in the Late Roman province of Asia Prima to be a suffragan of its capital Ephesus's Metropolitan Archbishop, but faded. Argiza
Argiza ( grc, Ἄργιζα) was a Greek town located in ancient Mysia and later in the Byzantine Empire, Byzantine province of Hellespontus (province), Hellespontus. On the ''Tabula Peutingeriana'' it is spelled Argesis and placed between Pergamum and Cyzicus. Pliny the Elder notes the town as Erizii and in his day it belonged to the conventus of Adramyttium. In later times it was Christianized and became a bishopric. No longer a residential see, it was restored under the name Algiza by the Roman Catholic Church as a titular see. Carlos Carmelo Vasconcellos Motta (16 July 1890 – 18 September 1982) was a long-serving cardinal. Until Eugênio de Araújo Sales surpassed him in 2005, he was the longest-serving Brazilian cardinal, and during his cardinalate the Church in Brazil underwent tremendous expansion, involving the development of many new movements that were to develop after he had largely disappeared from the scene. Biography Originally from a small village in the state of Minas Gerais, the future Cardinal gained his education in the local seminary in the city of Mariana. He was ordained in 1918, and spent much of the next fifteen years in the state capital of Belo Horizonte as a seminary rector. He became a bishop in 1932, but only of a titular see. Mario Brini
Mario Brini (11 May 1908 – 9 December 1995) was an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who worked in the diplomat in the Secretariat of State of the Holy See and in the Roman Curia. Biography Mario Brini was born in Piombino, Italy, on 11 May 1908. He was ordained a priest on 29 June 1938. During the Second World War, Brini worked as the resident expert on the Soviet Union for the Secretariat of State. During the chaos that surrounded the Liberation of Rome in 1944, Alexander Kurtna, an Estonian national who worked from 1940-1944 as a translator at the Congregation for the Eastern Churches while spying for both Nazi Germany and Joseph Stalin's NKVD, turned the tables on his SS handler, Herbert Kappler, by stealing the top secret Sicherheitsdienst codebooks from Kappler's office. The Protopriest of the College of Cardinals ( it, protopresbitero, and, rare, it, protoprete) in the College of Cardinals, is the first Cardinal-Priest in the order of precedence, hence directly after the Cardinal-bishops. This title is always attached to the most senior Cardinal Priest according to date of his creation.
