Algerian Constitution Of 1996
The Algerian Constitution of 1996 was passed in a referendum in 1996. It is the fundamental law of Algeria. The constitution was amended in 2002, 2008, 2016., and 2020. History The Algerian constitution was amended in 1996 to address years of sectarian strife. This violence started in January 1991, when Muslim groups began violently protesting in response to the cancellation of the first ever multiparty election of Algeria by the military junta, where the Islamic Salvation Front was expected to come out victorious. The Algerian military declared a state of emergency and adopted a "transitional rule" for the next few years. While violence had been simmering from January 1991 to the summer of 1995, Islamist groups started more actively fighting with the Algerian military in response to multiparty elections announced in November 1995. Abdelmalek Sellal
Abdelmalek Sellal ( ar, عبد المالك سلال, ʿAbd al-Mālik Silāl; born 1 August 1948) is an Algerian politician who was Prime Minister of Algeria from 3 September 2012 to 13 March 2014 when he took a leave of office to support President Abdelaziz Bouteflika's re-election campaign and again from April 2014 to May 2017. Life and career Sellal was born on 1 August 1948 in Constantine, Algeria. Sellal worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1995 to 1996 and was posted in Budapest as Ambassador to Hungary from 1996 to 1997. Subsequently, he was appointed to the government, serving as Minister of the Interior from 1998 to 1999, Minister of Youth and Sports from 1999 to 2001, Minister of Public Works from 2001 to 2002, Minister of Transport from 2002 to 2004, and Minister of Water Resources from 2004 to 2012. Constitutional History
Constitutional history is the area of historical study covering both written constitutions and uncodified constitutions, and became an academic discipline during the 19th century. ''The Oxford Companion to Law'' (1980) defined it as the study of the "origins, evolution and historical development" of the constitution of a community. The English term is attributed to Henry Hallam, in his 1827 work ''The Constitutional History of England''. It overlaps legal history and political history.
