Algemeen Handelsblad
''NRC'', previously called ''NRC Handelsblad'' (), is a daily morning newspaper published in the Netherlands by NRC Media. It is generally accepted as a newspaper of record in the Netherlands. History ''NRC Handelsblad'' was first published on 1 October 1970 after a merger of the Amsterdam newspaper ''Algemeen Handelsblad'' (founded 1828 by J.W. van den Biesen) and the Rotterdam ''Nieuwe Rotterdamsche Courant'' (founded 1844 by Henricus Nijgh). The paper's motto is ''Lux et Libertas'' – Light (referring to the Age of Enlightenment) and Freedom. Editor was succeeded on 12 December 2006, by . After a dispute with the new owners Donker had to step down on 26 April 2010 and was replaced by Belgian . In 2019, he was succeeded by René Moerland. On 7 March 2011, the paper changed its format from broadsheet to tabloid. The circulation of ''NRC Handelsblad'' in 2014 was 188,500 copies, putting it in 4th place among the national dailies. ''nrc•next'' () was a Dutch daily newspaper published in the Netherlands by Mediahuis. The first edition was released on 14 March 2006. It was stopped in March 2021. ''nrc•next'' was a morning edition tabloid, and its primary target group are young higher educated people. Formula The newspaper aimed at young, well-educated (HBO or university) readers in the 25-34 age group, most of whom did not read a newspaper, or read the free tabloids ''Metro'' and '' Spits''. Secondarily, ''nrc•next'' aimed at the 20-39 age group. The newspaper was intended for "the new generation of interested media-users who use news and information in a different way", according to NRC executive editor Folkert Jensma. The news was delivered in concise format, because it was assumed that the readers had already picked up the basics from other sources. For the same reason, some news items was not covered at all. Adriaan Van Dis
Adriaan van Dis (Bergen aan Zee, 16 December 1946) is a Dutch author. He debuted in 1983 with the novella ''Nathan Sid''. In 1995 his book ''Indische Duinen'' (''My Father's War''), which in its narrative is a follow up to his debut novella, was also awarded several prestigious literary awards. Derk Jan Eppink
Derk Jan Eppink (born 7 November 1958) is a Dutch journalist, politician in the Netherlands, and former cabinet secretary for European Commissioners Bolkestein (1999–2004) and Kallas (2004–2007). In 2009, he was elected to the European Parliament for List Dedecker, and in 2019 for Forum for Democracy. In 2021, he became an MP in the Dutch House of Representatives for the JA21 party. He sits on the European Conservatives and Reformists Group Executive. Eppink was born in Steenderen, Gelderland. Marjon Van Royen
Marjon van Royen (born 24 October 1957 in The Hague) is a Dutch journalist and foreign correspondent for the NOS Journaal, the Dutch language public radio and television news channel. She started her career as a freelance journalist in Italy in the 1980s. From 1991-2003 she worked for the daily newspaper NRC Handelsblad, covering national news and the Balkan Wars (March 1994 to late 1995). In her reporting from former Yugoslavia she refused to take sides, which was not always appreciated. Joris Luyendijk (; born 30 December 1971) is a Dutch non-fiction author, anthropologist, news correspondent, and TV interviewer. Jérôme Louis Heldring (; 21 December 1917 – 27 April 2013) was a Dutch journalist. He was columnist (1953–2012) and editor-in-chief (1968–1972) of the newspapers ''Nieuwe Rotterdamsche Courant'' and ''NRC Handelsblad''. Karel van Wolferen (born 1941) is a Dutch journalist, writer and professor, who is particularly recognised for his knowledge of Japanese politics, economics, history and culture. Geert Ludzer Mak (born 4 December 1946 in Vlaardingen) is a Dutch journalist and non-fiction writer. Honors For his book ''In Europe: Travels through the Twentieth Century'' he received the Leipziger Buchpreis zur Europäische Verständigung (2008) and the Otto von der Gablentz Prize (2009). Henricus Antonius Franciscus Maria Oliva "Hans" van Mierlo (; 18 August 1931 – 11 March 2010) was a Dutch politician and journalist who co-founded Democrats 66 (D66). Van Mierlo studied Law at the Radboud University Nijmegen obtaining a Master of Laws degree and worked as a journalist and editor for the ''Algemeen Handelsblad'' from August 1960 until January 1967.
