Alfredo Ernest Novak
Alfred Ernest Novak, C.Ss.R. (Portuguese: Alfredo Ernesto Novak)(June 2, 1930 – December 3, 2014) was an American member of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, commonly referred to as the Redemptorists, who worked as a missionary in Brazil. He served as the second Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Paranaguá from 1989-2006. Biography Novak was born in Dwight, Nebraska. He was educated at the Redemptorist minor seminary, St. Joseph’s College, in Kirkwood, Missouri. He was admitted to the congregation at their novitiate in De Soto, Missouri, where he professed religious vows as a Redemptorist. He studied for the priesthood at Immaculate Conception Seminary in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin and was ordained there on July 2, 1956. Novak was serving as a missionary in Brazil when, on April 19, 1979, Pope John Paul II named him Titular Bishop of Vardimissa and an Auxiliary Bishop of São Paulo. Most Reverend
The Most Reverend is a style applied to certain religious figures, primarily within the historic denominations of Christianity, but occasionally in some more modern traditions also. It is a variant of the more common style "The Reverend". Anglican In the Anglican Communion, the style is applied to archbishops (including those who, for historical reasons, bear an alternative title, such as presiding bishop), rather than the style "The Right Reverend" which is used by other bishops. The novitiate, also called the noviciate, is the period of training and preparation that a Christian ''novice'' (or ''prospective'') monastic, apostolic, or member of a religious order undergoes prior to taking vows in order to discern whether they are called to vowed religious life. José Ivo Lorscheiter
José Ivo Lorscheiter (7 December 1927 – 5 March 2007) was a Brazilian prelate of the Catholic Church. He was a bishop from 1965 to his retirement in 2004. He was a leading proponent of liberation theology and denounced abuses of human rights by the military regime that controlled Brazil in the '' anos de chumbo'' from 1964 to 1985. Biography Lorscheiter was born on 7 December 1927 in São José do Hortêncio, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in the south of Brazil, one of seven brothers born to a family of farmers. His parents were the descendants of German immigrants.
