Alfred Winsor
Alfred "Ralph" Winsor (January 8, 1880 – September 12, 1961) was an American ice hockey coach and amateur ice hockey player. Winsor coached ice hockey at Harvard University between 1903 and 1917. Harvard Crimson Men's Ice Hockey
The Harvard Crimson men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents Harvard University. The Crimson are a member of ECAC Hockey. They play at the Bright Hockey Center in Boston, Massachusetts. The Crimson hockey team is one of the oldest college ice hockey teams in the United States, having played their first game on January 19, 1898, in a 0–6 loss to Brown. The Crimson's archrival is the Cornell Big Red. The teams meet at least twice each season for installments of the historic Cornell-Harvard hockey rivalry. History Early history The Crimson hockey team was founded in 1898 making the team one of the oldest college ice hockey teams in the United States. 1909–10 Harvard Crimson Men's Ice Hockey Season
The 1909–10 Harvard Crimson men's ice hockey season was the 13th season of play for the program. Season Harvard began the season well, winning two preliminary games before taking the first two IHA contests by dominating the opposition. When they traveled to New York to play Princeton the Crimson were in good position to remain as the Intercollegiate Hockey Association but instead Harvard was shutout by the Tigers. The blanking was just the second time Harvard had failed to score in a game in program history, the first coming in their debut match in 1898. After a poor showing against St. Francis Xavier Harvard ended with two further shutouts of conference opponents to finish second in the IHA. The 1908–09 Harvard Crimson men's ice hockey season was the 12th season of play for the program. Season After two season where they narrowly missed winning the Intercollegiate Hockey Association championship, Harvard returned to the top of the heap in 1909. The defense for the Crimson was stellar all season with the team surrendering just 7 goals in 9 games as they shut out opponents 5 times to earn the sixth undefeated season in the twelve years the program had existed. 1905–06 Harvard Crimson Men's Ice Hockey Season
The 1905–06 Harvard Crimson men's ice hockey season was the ninth season of play for the program. Season For the fourth straight year Harvard finished undefeated, claiming the intercollegiate title. While their winning streak came to an end at 30 their intercollegiate winning streak was continued at 20 games. Harvard entered the game against Yale with both teams undefeated in conference play. Harvard scored 3 times in the first half but were equaled by the Elis in the second. Because the victory would win the IHA championship the game continued on through four scoreless sessions before Richard Townsend ended the game in the fifth 5-minute overtime. The title game possessed the most overtime periods Harvard has ever played, however, because regulation was only 40 minutes, the game time was swiftly surpassed once the college game shifted to three 20-minute periods.
