Alfred Preece
The Mayor of Chatham Islands is the head of the municipal government of the Chatham Islands, New Zealand, and presides over the Chatham Islands Council. Patrick Smith served as mayor of the Chatham Islands from 1992 until his retirement in 2010. Smith was succeeded by deputy mayor Alfred Preece, who acted as mayor until he was elected to the position in 2010. Preece had initially been invited to run for council by Mayor Smith. He is the son of Alfred "Bunty" Preece QSO, a former chairman of the Chatham Islands County Council. Monique Croon is the current mayor of the Chatham Islands. She was first elected in the 2019 local elections. Worship (style)
Worship is an honorific prefix for mayors, justices of the peace and magistrates in present or former Commonwealth realms. In spoken address, these officials are addressed as Your Worship or referred to as His Worship, Her Worship, or Their Worship. In Australia, all states now use Your Honour as the form of address for magistrates (the same as has always been used for judges in higher courts). 2019 New Zealand Local Elections
The 2019 New Zealand local elections were triennial elections to select local government officials and district health board members. Under section 10 of the Local Electoral Act 2001, a "general election of members of every local authority or community board must be held on the second Saturday in October in every third year" from the date the Act came into effect in 2001, meaning 12 October 2019. Most of the local elections were run by one of two companies on behalf of individual local bodies. Sometimes the company also provides the electoral officer. Three Waters Reform Programme
The Water Services Reform Programme (formerly known as Three Waters) is a public infrastructure restructuring programme launched by the Sixth Labour Government to centralise the management of water supply and sanitation in New Zealand. It originally proposed shifting control of stormwater, drinking water and wastewater management from the country's 67 local councils to several new publicly-owned regional entities by July 2024. Details of the proposed reforms were announced in October 2021. The Three Waters reforms were criticised by several mayors and the opposition National and ACT parties. From November 2021, a working group of mayors and Māori representatives reviewed issues of representation, governance and accountability, and reported back in March 2022 with 47 recommendations.
