Alfred Neumann (writer)
Alfred Neumann (15 October 1895 – 3 October 1952) was a German writer of novels, stories, poems, plays, and films, as well as a translator into German. Biography Neumann was born in Lautenburg, Germany (now Poland). He was a recipient of the Kleist Prize in 1926 and his writings were banned during the Third Reich. His novel ''Der Patriot'' was turned into a play and filmed in 1928, directed by Ernst Lubitsch. The film was remade in France in 1938 directed by Maurice Tourneur. He was working in Italy when Adolf Hitler came to power in 1933. The Nazi party seized all his property due to his Jewish heritage. He remained in Italy until 1938 when he moved to France. The French film '' La Tragédie impériale'' (1938), were based on his novel. He moved to Los Angeles in 1941 and became a US citizen, where he stayed until 1949. Lidzbark
Lidzbark (german: Lautenburg) is a town with 8,670 inhabitants in the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship in Poland. It is located on the Wel river and Lake Lidzbark. The postal code for the entire area is 13-230. The town is popularly referred to as Lidzbark Welski, to distinguish it from Lidzbark Warmiński. History Lidzbark was founded in 1301. The town's Roman Catholic parish church was constructed in 1350. Władysław II Jagiełło led his army through Lidzbark on July 9, 1410 before the Battle of Grunwald. On September 29, 1413, some of the Teutonic Knights in the town revolted against Heinrich von Plauen the Elder; they were only appeased with Plauen's replacement with Michael Küchmeister von Sternberg. The town joined the Prussian Confederation, which opposed Teutonic rule, and upon the request of which King Casimir IV Jagiellon reincorporated the territory to the Kingdom of Poland in 1454. None Shall Escape
''None Shall Escape'' is a 1944 war film. Even though the film was made during World War II, the setting is a post-war Nuremberg-style war crimes trial. Alexander Knox plays Wilhelm Grimm, a Nazi officer who is on trial, and the story unfolds through the eyes of several witnesses, including a Catholic priest, Father Warecki (Henry Travers), Grimm's brother Karl (Erik Rolf) and Marja Pacierkowski ( Marsha Hunt), a woman to whom he was once engaged. Alfred Neumann and Joseph Than were nominated for an Academy Award for Best Story. Plot The film centers on the trial of Wilhelm Grimm, a war criminal. Each character witness provides a flashback scene to a previous part of Grimm's life. In the trial, it is revealed that Grimm (Alexander Knox), who fought for Germany in World War I and lost a leg in battle, returns after the war to the small German village of Lidzbark (now part of Poland) where he had been a teacher.
