Sir Alfred Eyles, Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath, KCB, Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, KBE (8 December 1856 – 16 May 1945) was a British civil servant at the Admiralty (United Kingdom), Admiralty who was Department of the Accountant-General of the Navy, Accountant-General of the Navy from 1906 to 1918. Eyles entered the Admiralty (United Kingdom), Admiralty in 1876. He was private secretary to Sir Gerald FitzGerald, Accountant-General of the Navy, in 1885, Staff Officer for Estimates in 1891, Assistant Principal Clerk in 1897, Assistant Accountant-General in 1903, Deputy Accountant-General in 1904, and Accountant-General of the Navy from 1906 to 1918, when he retired. Eyles was appointed CB in 1908, KCB in 1913 and KBE in 1919. The writer Leonora Eyles was his daughter-in-law. References

Knight Commander Of The Order Of The Bath
The Most Honourable Order of the Bath is a British order of chivalry founded by George I of Great Britain, George I on 18 May 1725. The name derives from the elaborate medieval ceremony for appointing a knight, which involved Bathing#Medieval and early-modern Europe, bathing (as a symbol of purification) as one of its elements. The knights so created were known as "Knights of the Bath". George I "erected the Knights of the Bath into a regular Order (honour), Military Order". He did not (as is commonly believed) revive the Order of the Bath, since it had never previously existed as an Order, in the sense of a body of knights who were governed by a set of Statute, statutes and whose numbers were replenished when vacancies occurred.
