Alfred Allee
Alfred Y. Allee (1855 in DeWitt County, Texas – 1896 in Laredo, Texas, 1896) was an American lawman prominent in Texas in the late 19th century, with a reputation for quick and casual violence and for shooting prisoners after they had surrendered. In 1882, Allee became deputy sheriff of Karnes County south of San Antonio. That same year, he shot and killed a robbery suspect under questionable circumstances; it was claimed that Allee was settling an old score. He was charged, but not convicted, of the man's murder. While deputy sheriff of Frio County, Allee became involved in a disagreement with another deputy about which man was the faster draw. Packing two six-guns, Allee shot the man eight times, killing him instantly. He was again acquitted of the charge of murder when witnesses testified that the other deputy had drawn his gun first, and Allee only defended himself. DeWitt County, Texas
DeWitt County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 19,824. The county seat is Cuero. The county was founded in 1846 and is named for Green DeWitt, who founded an early colony in Texas. Brack Cornett (outlaw)
Braxton "Brack" Cornett (22 May 1841 – 22 January 1888) was a prominent Texas outlaw from 1887 to 1888. He grew up in south Texas, in and around Goliad County. Life He is most well known as a member of the Bill Whitley gang (though it is today sometimes referred to as the Brack Cornett gang). The gang was formed in February 1887 to rob trains, but their first outing in early May 1887 was a bust. However, on 18 May, they robbed the Missouri-Pacific train while it was stopped at McNeill Junction, thirteen miles outside of San Antonio, getting away with about $4,000. The next month they robbed the east bound train from San Antonio near Flatonia, in Fayette County, getting away with over $7,000. In 1888, Whitley, Cornett, and the gang robbed the bank in Cisco, Texas, escaping with $25,000. Several days later they stopped an I&GN train and stole $20,000. Alfred Young Allee
Alfred Young Allee (September 14, 1905 – January 13, 1987) was the grandson of Alfred Allee who became sheriff of Karnes County, Texas in 1892. He was born in La Salle County, Texas and became a Texas Ranger like his father and grandfather. Early history In 1926, Alfred was a game warden in Zavala County, Texas and became a deputy sheriff for the county in 1927. Texas Rangers In 1931, Alfred joined the Texas Rangers was a part of Captain Light Townsend's C Company. In 1933, he resigned after Miriam "Ma" Ferguson was elected governor of Texas and became deputy sheriff in Beeville, Texas. Many other Texas Rangers also resigned at this time in protest of corruption from Ma's previous and future term. In 1935, a new governor (James V. Allred) was elected and Alfred rejoined the Texas Rangers. Alfred ended up serving thirty-seven years as a Texas Ranger. Frio Town
Frio Town, known as Frio City before 1886, is a ghost town immediately south of the Presidio Crossing on the Frio River in Frio County, Texas, United States. History Located 16 miles northwest of Pearsall, the town was laid out by A.L. Oden in 1871. The river crossing it lay near was named for the fact that numerous cannonballs, swords, and sabers were found there. Juan De Ugalde in the 18th century, Antonio López de Santa Anna in 1836, and Adrián Woll in 1842 were all thought to have used the Presidio Crossing. The first mail to the town was delivered by horseback from Benton City; later, it arrived by stagecoach from San Antonio. In 1871, Frio City became the first county seat of Frio County. Carting cypress shingles from Leakey, L.J.W. Edwards completed the first Frio County courthouse in January 1872. The same year, the town's stone jail was built. Revolver
A revolver (also called a wheel gun) is a repeating handgun that has at least one barrel and uses a revolving cylinder containing multiple chambers (each holding a single cartridge) for firing. Because most revolver models hold up to six rounds of cartridge before needing to reload, revolvers are also commonly called six shooters.
