Alfred A. Arraj
Alfred Albert Arraj (September 1, 1906 – October 23, 1992) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Colorado. Education and career Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Arraj received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Colorado Law School in 1928. He was in private practice in Denver, Colorado, from 1928 to 1929, in Springfield, Colorado, from 1929 to 1933, back in Denver from 1934 to 1936, and again in Springfield from 1936 to 1942. He was a major in the United States Army during World War II, from 1942 to 1946, thereafter returning to his Springfield practice until 1949. He was a District Judge of the 15th Judicial District of Colorado from 1949 to 1957. Federal judicial service On July 2, 1957, Arraj was nominated by President Dwight D. Senior Status
Senior status is a form of semi-retirement for United States federal judges. To qualify, a judge in the Federal judiciary of the United States, federal court system must be at least 65 years old, and the sum of the judge's age and years of service as a federal judge must be at least 80 years. As long as senior judges carry at least a 25 percent caseload or meet other criteria for activity, they remain entitled to maintain a staffed office and chambers, including a secretary and their normal complement of law clerks, and they continue to receive annual cost-of-living increases. Senior judges vacate their seats on the bench, and the President of the United States, president may appoint new full-time judges to fill those seats. Some U.S. states have similar systems for senior judges.
