Alfred Whittingham (19 June 1914 – 1993) was a professional footballer, who played for Bradford City, Huddersfield Town and Halifax Town. He was born in Altofts, West Yorkshire. Altofts
Altofts is a village in West Yorkshire, England. It lies north-east from the centre of Wakefield and less than north-west of Normanton. The M62 runs close to the village to the north-east, and the Aire and Calder Navigation to the north-west. The village is part of the civil parish of Normanton, but for local elections it is part of the ward of Altofts and Whitwood, which also includes the western part of Castleford. Economy Many people in the village previously worked in the local coal mines. The largest mine in the village, The West Riding Colliery, was owned by Pope and Pearsons. It was here that the first British coaldust experiments took place during 1908 and 1909, conducted by W. E. Garforth, manager of the colliery and president of the Mining Association of Great Britain. Huddersfield Town A
Huddersfield is a market town in the Kirklees district in West Yorkshire, England. It is the administrative centre and largest settlement in the Kirklees district. The town is in the foothills of the Pennines. The River Holme's confluence into the similar-sized Colne to the south of the town centre which then flows into the Calder in the north eastern outskirts of the town. The rivers around the town provided soft water required for textile treatment in large weaving sheds, this made it a prominent mill town with an economic boom in the early part of the Victorian era Industrial Revolution.
