''ALF: The Animated Series'' (also known as ''ALF on Melmac'') is a 30-minute Saturday morning animated series that aired on NBC for 26 episodes from September 26, 1987, to January 7, 1989. ''ALF: The Animated Series'' was a prequel and animated spinoff of the prime time series '' ALF'', which had also aired on NBC from 1986 to 1990. Paul Fusco, the creator and puppeteer of ALF in the live-action series, was the only cast member to reprise his role in voice form; none of the human characters from the prime time ''ALF'' appeared in the animated series, due to the shows premise revolving around ALF (Gordon Shumway) traveling to various places on his home-world of Melmac. Paul Fusco
Paul Fusco is an American puppeteer, actor, television producer, writer and director. He is best known as the puppeteer and voice of the title character on the sitcom '' ALF'', for which he also served as creator, writer, producer, and director. He formed the production company Alien Productions with Tom Patchett and Bernie Brillstein. Career As a student, Paul Fusco worked in the audio-visual department of Hamden High School in Hamden, Connecticut, where his interest in television and film began. His early career included a stint performing on a local children's television show and various other work that included both puppeteering and stage magic/ventriloquism. In the early 1980s, he met puppet builders and fellow puppeteers Bob Fappiano and Lisa Buckley who were both embarking on careers within the industry and they joined his team. Gordon Shumway, also known as "ALF", is the protagonist and title character of the American television series '' ALF'', and its animated spin-offs, '' ALF: The Animated Series'', and ''ALF Tales''. ALF also starred in the poorly received television film ''Project ALF'', and hosted the short lived talk show ''ALF's Hit Talk Show''. The name "ALF" is short for "Alien Life Form". Paul Fusco created and plays ALF, and he also provides the voice for the character. On ''ALF'', Lisa Buckley and Bob Fappiano assisted Fusco with performing the furry brown alien. During the first season of ''ALF'', Michu Meszaros occasionally wore a full costume when full body shots were needed of the character. It is often in the form of a barge which is towed or otherwise moved by means of tugboats; however, many are also self-propelled.
