Aleksei Vladimirovich Volkov (russian: Алексей Владимирович Волков; born March 15, 1980) is a Russian former professional hockey goaltender. Career Volkov was drafted in the third round (76th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings, however never made the National Hockey League (NHL). He played most notably in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). In ice hockey, the goaltender (commonly referred to as the goalie) is the player responsible for preventing the hockey puck from entering their team's net, thus preventing the opposing team from scoring. The goaltender mostly plays in or near the area in front of the net called the ''Ice hockey rink#Crease, goal crease'' (often referred to simply as '' the crease''). Goaltenders tend to stay at or beyond the top of the crease to cut down on the angle of shots. In the modern age of goaltending there are two common styles, butterfly and hybrid (hybrid is a mix of the traditional stand-up style and butterfly technique). Franchise history Early years of Omsk hockey (1950–1972) The first amateur ice hockey teams in Omsk began to appear in 1950, formed by local bandy players. Kirill Alekseevich Safronov (russian: Кирилл Алексеевич Сафронов; born 26 February 1981) is a Russian former professional ice hockey defenceman. Playing career Safronov was selected in the first round, 19th overall, by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. Drafted from the Russian Superleague's SKA Saint Petersburg, Safronov made his North American debut with the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) in the 1999–2000 season. After one season with the Remparts, he joined the Coyotes' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Springfield Falcons. Alexei Tezikov
Alexei Pavlovich Tezikov (russian: Алексей Павлович Тезиков; June 22, 1978 – July 16, 2020) was a Russian professional ice hockey defenceman who played in the National Hockey League with the Washington Capitals and Vancouver Canucks. Originally drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, Tezikov was dealt at the trade deadline of the 1998–99 NHL season to the Washington Capitals in exchange for Joé Juneau. He spent a few years in the minors before being traded to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, and then was claimed on waivers by the Vancouver Canucks. The 2000 World Junior Hockey Championships (''2000 WJHC''), was the 24th edition of the Ice Hockey World Junior Championship. The tournament was hosted in Skellefteå and Umeå, Sweden from December 25, 1999, to January 4, 2000. The Czech Republic won the gold medal with a 1–0 shootout victory over Russia in the championship game, while Canada won the bronze medal with a 4–3 shootout victory over the United States. This still remains as the only tournament to where both medal games have been decided in a shootout. IIHF World U20 Championship
The IIHF World Junior Championship (WJC), or simply the "World Juniors" in ice hockey circles, is an annual event organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) for national under-20 ice hockey teams from around the world. It is traditionally held in late December, ending in early January. The tournament usually attracts the top hockey players in this age category. The main tournament features the top ten ranked hockey nations in the world, comprising the 'Top Division', from which a world champion is crowned.
