Jacques Gay
Jacques Gay (born in Voreppe, Isère on 22 February 1851, and died in Grenoble on 6 May 1925) was a French painter. Biography Jacques Gay was a pupil of Firmin Gauthier and Jean-Léon Gérôme in Paris. He is a painter of genre works, a portraitist and a landscaping, and painted many rural scenes. Friend of Ernest Hebert, he was part of the painters group in Proveysieux, with Jean Achard and Théodore Ravanat. He also attended the École dauphinoise. He worked regularly at the Salon from 1878 to 1902. He painted Dauphiné villages, inhabitants, and interiors with a realistic style and with a warm sensitivity. His paintings can be seen at the Museum of Grenoble. The ''Musée dauphinois'' (Dauphinois Museum), located in Grenoble (France), is dedicated to the ethnography, archaeology, history and society of the former province of the Dauphiné. Charles-Auguste Questel
Charles-Auguste Questel (19 September 1807 – 30 January 1888) was a French architect and teacher. As well as designing new buildings, his projects included the preservation of historical monuments. He worked on several historical monuments included in France's first list of such structures, the list of 1840. Biography Born in Paris, Questel was a student of Félix Duban at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts, and took a second-place Prix de Rome in 1844. He became a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1871. Questel became the patron of his own ''atelier'' at the Ecole. Among his students were Henri Paul Nénot, Ernest Sanson, James Freret, Eugène Train and the Swiss architect Alfred Friedrich Bluntschli; he was the father-in-law of French architect Honoré Daumet. Théodore Ravanat
Théodore Ravanat (born in Grenoble on 4 May 1812, died in Proveysieux on 21 September 1883) was a French landscape painter. Ravanat's work is mostly composed of Dauphiné landscapes. His paintings are generally among private collections of Grenoble, but some of these paintings can be seen at the Museum of Grenoble or the Musée dauphinois. Biography Ravant received his first artistic advice by Jean Achard. He was friend with Ernest Hébert, sculptor Victor Sappey, and the most of painters who attended the École dauphinoise. He began exhibiting his painting ''Souvenir de Vienne'' in 1832 in Grenoble, then he continued to show his works the next years. From 1843 to 1845, he exhibited at the Salon de Paris. Diodore Rahoult
Charles Diodore Rahoult (2 December 1819, Grenoble - 23 March 1874, Grenoble) was a French painter of landscapes and Genre art, genre scenes. Life and work He was born into a family of merchants, and his father was a confectioner. He showed an early aptitude for art and studied with Horace Mollard (1800-1872), a local landscape painter. When he had mastered the basics, he went to Paris to become a student of Léon Cogniet; accompanied by his friend, Henri Blanc-Fontaine, who he had convinced to abandon a legal career, in favor of painting. Henri Blanc-Fontaine
Henri Emmanuel Blanc-Fontaine (16 January 1819, Grenoble - 20 December 1897, Sassenage) was a French painter. He created genre scenes, portraits, landscapes, and still lifes. Biography He had originally planned to have a legal career, but followed the advice of his friend, Diodore Rahoult, a rising local artist, and went to Paris, where he was a pupil of Léon Cogniet. In 1843, he also enrolled at the École de Beaux-Arts. He had his first exhibit at the Salon in 1848. Rahoult introduced him to landscape painting in 1853, and that became his favorite subject after 1870. He was also a pupil of Jean Achard (whose portrait he painted; now kept in the Museum of Grenoble) and François-Auguste Ravier in Charlieu.
