Alexandra Cheron
Alexandra Beauvoir Cheron Tavárez (January 16, 1983 – May 21, 2011) was a Dominican-American actress, model, businesswoman, and socialite. Tavárez was born in the Dominican Republic. Her father was an accountant from Haiti and her mother an ambassador in the United States for the Dominican Republic. Alexandra grew up in Haiti until 1999, when she moved to Florida. San Francisco de Macorís is a city in the Dominican Republic located in the northeast portion of the island, in the Cibao region. It is the capital of the Duarte Province, and the sixth most populated city in the country. The name ''San Francisco de Macorís'' comes from a combination of the name of Francis of Assisi, Saint Francis, patron saint of the Franciscan Order (a religious organization from Italy that had come to this territory during colonization) and the territory's old name, which is ''Macorix people, Macorix''. The city is known as the ''Land of Cacao'' ("Tierra del Cacao"). ''Mama, I Want to Sing!'' is an American musical film written and directed by Charles Randolph-Wright, produced by Vision Films and CodeBlack Entertainment, and distributed by 20th Century Fox's Fox Faith division. The film is an adaptation of the off-Broadway gospel stage musical of the same name, written and produced by Vy Higginsen and Ken Wydro. The film is based on the life story of Higginson's sister, Doris Troy, a preacher's daughter who sang in a church choir before being discovered by James Brown. Doris Troy's niece, Knoelle, who has played the star role in the off-Broadway production, makes her film debut in the movie in a principal role. One of the executive producers announced via Twitter that the movie was completed in June 2009. The official movie trailer was released and premiered on September 22, 2009.
