The district was named after Queen Alexandra, the wife of King Edward VII. Alberta
Alberta ( ) is one of the thirteen provinces and territories of Canada. It is part of Western Canada and is one of the three prairie provinces. The Legislative Assembly of Alberta is the deliberative assembly of the province of Alberta, Canada. It sits in the Alberta Legislature Building in Edmonton. The Legislative Assembly currently has 87 members, elected first past the post from single-member electoral districts. History Vermilion was one of the original 25 electoral districts contested in the 1905 Alberta general election upon Alberta joining Confederation in September 1905. 1909 Alberta General Election
The 1909 Alberta general election was the second general election held in the Province of Alberta, Canada on March 22, 1909, to elect 41 members of the Alberta legislature to the 2nd Alberta Legislature. The incumbent Liberal Party led by Premier Alexander C. Rutherford was re-elected to a majority government with 36 of the 41 seats in the legislature, and just under 60 per cent of the popular vote. The Conservative Party led by Albert Robertson formed the official opposition, with only two members, with Robertson was defeated in his own seat in High River. Lloydminster was a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first past the post method of voting from 1971 to 1993. History The Lloydminster electoral district was created prior to the 1971 general election to represent Lloydminster and the surrounding area. Prior to the 1971 election, Lloydminster was part of the Alexandria electoral district. Prior to the 1993 general election, Lloydminster was merged with parts of the former Vermilion-Viking electoral district (which had also been created for the 1971 election) to form the current district of Vermilion-Lloydminster. 1971 Alberta General Election
The 1971 Alberta general election was the seventeenth general election held in the Province of Alberta, Canada on August 30, 1971, to elect seventy-five members of the Alberta Legislature to form the 17th Alberta Legislative Assembly. The Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta led by Peter Lougheed won 49 of 75 seats with 46.4 per cent of the popular vote in the new legislature to form a majority government. Lougheed's Progressive Conservatives defeated the incumbent Social Credit Party led by Premier Harry Strom who won 25 seats with 41.1 per cent of the popular vote. 1957 Alberta Liquor Plebiscite
The 1957 Alberta liquor plebiscite was a province-wide plebiscite conducted in Alberta, Canada The plebiscite asked voters if they were in favour of adding extra ALCB outlets in their district. It was held on October 30, 1957. At the time, the Alberta Liquor Control Board operated only a few stores from which liquor could be legally purchased. A vote among egg producers was also held on the question of an egg marketing board. An additional vote was held regarding mixed drinking in the major cities, also on October 30, 1957. The 1957 votes were not held in conjunction with an Alberta election. Alberta provincial electoral districts are currently single member ridings that each elect one member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. There are 87 districts fixed in law in Alberta. History The original twenty five districts were drawn up by Liberal Member of Parliament Frank Oliver prior to the first general election of 1905. The original boundaries were widely regarded as being gerrymandered to favour the Alberta Liberal Party, although the Liberal Party did receive the majority of votes in the 1905 election and thus rightly formed majority government. Every boundary redistribution since 1905 has been based on the original boundaries, with districts being split or merged.
