Alexander Simpson (politician)
Alexander Simpson (June 12, 1872 – July 20, 1953) was an American journalist, attorney, and Democratic politician. He served in both houses of the New Jersey Legislature and as Assistant Attorney General of New Jersey. Biography Simpson was born in 1872 in Jersey City, New Jersey. He graduated from Jersey City High School (now William L. Dickinson High School) and attended Columbia Law School but could not afford to complete his studies there. He worked for a judge in the court and took a second job as a reporter, working for the ''New York Recorder'' and then for the ''New York World'' and ''New York Globe''."A. Alexander Lockhart Simpson
Alexander Lockhart Simpson (1785–1861) was a Scottish minister who served as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1849/50. Life He was born in April 1785. In 1803 he was a student at the Selkirk Hall of the Secession Church under Professor Lawson.''Fasti Ecclesiae Scoticanae''; by Hew Scott He was licensed to preach by the Presbytery of Kirkcaldy in January 1810. In October 1812 he was ordained as minister of Kirknewton under the patronage of George Earl of Morton. From 1828 he was made Joint Clerk of the General Assembly and in 1849 he succeeded Very Rev George Buist as Moderator of the General Assembly. In 1836 Edinburgh University awarded him an honorary Doctor of Divinity. He became Principal Clerk to the General Assembly in 1859. The elders of his church included Allan Maconochie, Lord Meadowbank. He died in the manse in Kirknewton on 15 December 1861. When he died he was Principal Clerk to the General Assembly. Alexander Russell Simpson
Sir Alexander Russell Simpson FRCPE FRSE LLD (20 April 1835–6 April1916) was a Scottish physician and Professor of Midwifery at the University of Edinburgh. He invented the axis-traction forceps also known as the obstetrics forceps which assisted in childbirth and reducing pain. Life Simpson was born in Bathgate on 30 April 1835, the son of Alexander Simpson (1797–1877), and nephew of James Young Simpson. He was educated locally then studied medicine primarily at the University of Edinburgh but also at Montpellier, Berlin and Vienna, graduating with an MD in 1856 with the thesis ''"On the anatomy of the umbilical cord" .'' From 1865 to 1870 he operated a doctor's surgery in Glasgow at 1 Blythswood Square. In 1870, on the death of his uncle, Professor James Young Simpson, he inherited his uncle's large townhouse at 52 Queen Street in Edinburgh and returned to that city, also taking over his uncle's position at the University of Edinburgh as Professor of Midwifery.
