Alexander Search (band)
Alexander Search is an English language Portuguese indie pop / indie rock band, formed in Lisbon, by pianist Júlio Resende and singer Salvador Sobral in late-2016. "Alexander Search" was one of the many heteronyms used by 20th Century Portuguese author Fernando Pessoa. Search, a literary persona/pseudonym created by the author during his teenage years, wrote mainly in English (Pessoa would later switch to writing exclusively in his native Portuguese language). The band pays tribute to the work of Fernando Pessoa by adopting his pseudonym's name and playing original indie pop/rock songs built around his poetry. Also in the same spirit, each of the band's members adopted pseudonyms. Alexander Search's self-titled debut album was released in June 2017, peaking at number 3 in the Portuguese charts. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Independent labels such as Flying Nun Records, Flying Nun began to promote the scene across New Zealand, inspiring key college rock bands in the United States such as Pavement (band), Pavement, Pixies (band), Pixies and R.E.M. Salvador Thiam Vilar Braamcamp Sobral (; born 28 December 1989) is a Portuguese singer, who won the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 for with the song "Amar pelos dois," written and composed by his sister, Luísa Sobral. Júlio Resende
Júlio Resende ( Faro, 10 June 1982) is a Portuguese pianist and composer. He is a pioneer of a unique and new genre called "Fado-Jazz". His improvisation techniques are transversal to his aesthetics, and articulate different musical genres, from Jazz, Fado, Classical Music and even Electronic Music. His first venture into the Fado-Jazz genre was the album tribute to Amália Rodrigues, the "Diva" of portuguese Fado. The album is called ''Amália por Júlio Resende'' launched in 2013. Over the years, Resende has published more records where he develops and explores the possibilities of Fado-Jazz. In 2020 he released the album ''Júlio Resende - Fado Jazz Ensemble'' where he includes the Portuguese guitar to interact musically with a jazz trio. The literary concept of the heteronym refers to one or more imaginary character(s) created by a writer to write in different styles.
