Alexander Riley (merchant)
Alexander Riley (1778 – 17 November 1833) was a merchant and one of the most important early pastoralists in Sydney and in New South Wales. Born in London to George Riley Snr, a well-educated bookseller, and Margaret Raby, he was the older brother of Edward Riley, also a merchant and pastoralist in Sydney. In 1804 Riley followed two of his sisters, who had married captains in the New South Wales Corps, Captain Ralph Wilson and Anthony Fenn Kemp, to Australia where, with his brother Edward who later followed, they went on to become two of Australia's richest men. Life Alexander Riley was born in Middlesex, London in 1778. Riley was the second oldest with two brothers, Edward Riley and Charles Riley, and three sisters, Frances, Margaret and Elizabeth. Alexander Riley (tracker)
Alexander Riley (1884-1970) was an Australian Aboriginal tracker from the Dubbo area and the first Aboriginal person to gain the rank of sergeant in the New South Wales Police Force. Early years Riley was born 26 May 1884 at Nymagee, New South Wales. He was the son of a labourer, John Riley, and his wife Mary, née Calligan. Career After working as a stationhand, Riley joined the New South Wales Police Force as a tracker on 11 June 1911. He injured his foot in 1912 and resigned from the police force on 31 August 1914. Riley was reappointed to the NSW police force on 1 January 1918. He was promoted to sergeant on 5 August 1941. He was the first Aboriginal sergeant in the New South Wales police force. Some of his most notable cases included the capture of Roy Governor, the youngest brother of bushranger Jimmy Governor, at Mendooran in June 1923. Alexander John Riley (born 29 March 1968 in Sheffield, Yorkshire) is an English TV and radio presenter. Early life and education Born and brought up in Sheffield, Riley started performing with the city's Crucible Youth Theatre, during which time he originated, and appeared in, sketches and devised pieces, as well as appearing in a number of plays and farces at the Library Theatre. Alex Riley is an American attorney and politician serving as a member of the Missouri House of Representatives from the 134th district. Elected in November 2020, he assumed office on January 6, 2021. Early life and education Riley was born and raised in Springfield, Missouri. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Thomas Edison State University, a paralegal certificate from Purdue University, and a Juris Doctor from the Southern Illinois University School of Law.
