Alexander McKenzie (born 1837) was a United States Navy Boatswain's Mate who received the Medal of Honor during the Korean Expedition. He was wounded in the rescue of Lieutenant Hugh McKee and was struck by a sword. Medal of Honor citation Rank and organization: Boatswain's Mate, United States Navy. Born: 1837, Scotland. Alexander McKenzie (politician)
Alexander John McKenzie (1851–1922) was a lawman and politician in early North Dakota. As the Republican national committeeman from North Dakota, he directed a highly successful political machine, and was known as the "senator-maker." He was highly influential in North Dakota and in neighboring Montana and Minnesota. He served time in prison for corruption, and became the first North Dakotan to receive a presidential pardon. Biography Life McKenzie was born April 13th, 1850, in New York, the son of Irish immigrants. It was rumored that he was born in Scotland or in Canada, but these rumors are not substantiated by the records. At age 17 McKenzie arrived in Dakota Territory in the United States. He worked as part of the construction crew on the Northern Pacific railroad between Fargo and Bismarck. and in 1873 decided to settle in Bismarck, marrying Maryanne Hayes from Brainerd, Minnesota. Alexander McKenzie FRS (6 December 1869, Dundee – 11 June 1951) was a Scottish chemist, specializing in stereochemistry. Kinetic resolution by synthetic means was first reported in 1899 by Marckwald and McKenzie. Life After education at the High School of Dundee from 1882 to 1885, McKenzie matriculated in 1885 at the University of St Andrews, where he studied Chemistry under Prof Thomas Purdie FRS and graduated in 1889 with M.A. in 1889 and in 1891 with the research degree B.Sc. in chemistry. At St Andrews, he was from 1891 to 1893 a lecture assistant to Thomas Purdie, from 1893 to 1896 a "university assistant" engaged in teaching, and from 1896 to 1898 a research assistant to Purdie in stereochemistry and optical activity. In 1898 McKenzie went to the University of Berlin to work under Landolt and received there in 1899 his D.Sc. Alexander McKenzie (born 1971 in Sydney) is an Australian contemporary artist. Biography The son of Scottish migrants, McKenzie knew he would become a painter from the earliest years and had his own purpose-built art studio at home from the age of eleven. After starting out at City Art Institute, now called (COFA) University of New South Wales College of Fine Arts, he dropped out, citing that he wasn't interested in exploring many other disciplines, he just wanted to get on with painting. Shortly after leaving City Art Institute he won the Brett Whiteley Scholarship to study at the Julian Ashton Art School, graduating in 1994. Between 1995 and 2002 he studied and travelled throughout England, Ireland, France, Scotland and Italy. Ali McKenzie (born 5 October 1981, London) is an English rugby union player. A prop forward, he played for Wasps when Wasps won the European Challenge Cup in 2003 and the Heineken Cup at Twickenham in 2004.
