Alexander Mackie College Of Advanced Education
''Alexander Mackie College'' was a tertiary education institution that trained school teachers in Sydney, Australia. It existed from 1958 to 1974 continuing as ''Alexander Mackie College of Advanced Education'' from 1975 to 1981. In January 1982 the college was reformed into two institutes, ''St George Institute of Education'' and ''City Art Institute'' under the umbrella of the new ''Sydney College of Advanced Education''. History Alexander Mackie College (AMC) was established in 1958 at Paddington. Mr. W. E. Hart was its first principal and Dr Campbell the deputy principal. The college initially trained primary and infant school teachers. Later it became a college training teachers in art, music, science and social science. Due to increasing student numbers the main teaching campus in Albion Avenue was too small and the college conducted classes at five different sites in inner-Sydney. David Keeling
David Keeling (born 1951) is an Australian artist. Life and work Born in Launceston, Tasmania in 1951, Keeling spent his younger years there before moving to Melbourne in 1970, to attend the Swinburne Film and Television School. He returned to Tasmania in 1973 after completing his studies at Swinburne, and commenced a new course at the Tasmanian School of Art. He went on to study at the Alexander Mackie School of Art in Sydney in 1981, and completed his Masters in Fine Art at RMIT in 1999. Keeling currently lives and works in Hobart. David has acted as Chairman and Board Member of Contemporary Art Services Tasmania, and Artbank, Sydney. Frances Phoenix
Frances Phoenix (née Budden) (1950–2017) was an Australian feminist artist known for needlework and poster designs. Phoenix contributed to the Women's Art Movement groups in both Sydney and Adelaide, as well as multiple community art projects. With Marie McMahon, she was a founding member of the Women's Domestic Needlework Group and contributed to Judy Chicago's ''The Dinner Party'' (1974–1979). She continued to study and practice art for the rest of her life. Her needlework and poster designs are held in national collections. Early life Phoenix was born in 1950. Henry Maurice Saxby (26 December 1924 – 30 November 2014) was an Australian educator, author, critic, reviewer and authority on Australian children's literature. Early life Henry Maurice Saxby was born on 26 December 1924 in Botany, New South Wales, Botany, New South Wales. His father was Maurice Henry Saxby and his mother was Nettie Thompson. They had three sons, Henry Maurice, Geoffrey, Richard and a daughter, Helen.
