Alexander Guttenplan
Alexander Guttenplan (born 8 June 1990) is a former student primarily known as the captain of the team from Emmanuel College, Cambridge that won the ''University Challenge'' TV quiz show in 2010, scoring 315 points to 100 against St John's College, Oxford, in the University Challenge 2009-10#Final, final. His performance in this has been compared with that of Gail Trimble. He also "got the better" of presenter Jeremy Paxman, in an exchange which became an Internet sensation. He has hundreds of fans who call themselves Guttenfans: "Guys want to be him, girls want to be with him!". He also took part in a special edition of ''Only Connect'', leading a team from ''University Challenge'' against the champions of the first series of ''Only Connect'', the Crossworders. ''Only Connect'' is a British television quiz show presented by Victoria Coren Mitchell. In the series, teams compete in a tournament of finding connections between seemingly unrelated clues. The title is taken from a passage in E. M. Forster's 1910 novel ''Howards End'': "Only connect the prose and the passion, and both will be exalted". ''Only Connect'' aired on BBC Four from 15 September 2008 to 7 July 2014, before moving to BBC Two from 1 September 2014. The Hall School is an independent boys' preparatory school in Belsize Park, Hampstead, north London, currently teaching boys from age 4 to age 13. Description The school, across its three buildings, a new one being built currently, has a roll of over 432 boys, approximately 60 in each year from Years 1–8 and 40 in Reception.
