Alexander Tait, Sawney Tait or Saunders TaitMcKay (2004), Page 81 (14 August 1720 - circa 1800)Paterson (1840), Page 157 was a tailor, a published poet and also a contemporary of Robert Burns who he knew well. Tait was also well acquainted with the published poet and close friend of Burns, David Sillar. Sawney spent much of his life in Tarbolton where he was an active member of the community. His poems were exhibited in the 1896 Burn Exhibition, a copy being loaned by the Mitchell Library. Alex Ross Tait (born 13 June 1972) is a New Zealand cricketer. He played in five One Day Internationals for New Zealand in the late 1990s. In 1996-97 Tait took 9/48 in the first innings and 16/130 in the match for the Northern Districts against Auckland at Seddon Park, Hamilton. His first innings haul was a record for Northern Districts and his match figures were the best in New Zealand first-class cricket. Tait has also played for the Northland in the Hawke Cup The Hawke Cup is a non-first-class cricket competition for New Zealand's district associations. Alexander Tait (28 November 1933 - December 2018) was an English footballer who played as a centre forward. He made over 160 Football League appearances in the years after the Second World War. Career Born in Bedlington, Tait was an England Youth international who signed in September 1952 as a part-time professional for Newcastle United while qualifying as a mathematics and PE teacher. Alex Tait was the first signing by Fred Ford for £5,000 in June 1960 from Newcastle United for Bristol City. Bristol City had just been relegated to the Third Division as Alex Tait made his debut at centre forward in a 4–0 win v Barnsley on 27 August 1960. Tait retained the no.9 shirt for the rest of the season with John Atyeo playing alongside as the dual strike force at inside right. City finished in mid table 14th position in 1960-61 when Tait made 35 appearances scoring 15 goals and Atyeo top scored with 19 goals.
